Time Frame well that is a loaded question for any shop. It depends how many engines are in front of you when you drop yours off. Might be a month. Might be 3 months.

Is that a "rebuild" or a completly different setup, new parts, custom build, etc? I know you had good luck there, and I was very impressed with how close he tuned those when you posted your sheets. I think a big thing is proximity, always a big advantage to go local (within 2-3 hours), when you can. Another big thing is how many times they have done similar setups with like parts.

Keeps the positive reps coming, it helps us all.

Guys I'm trying to have my engine ready for the 2017 season. Does anyone have a recommendation. I'm looking to spent a ton of money on a motor that will last about 30 minutes and have no warranty.

I can help you out there. Would you like my home address? Can we settle on 20 min w/ 15 min warranty? I'll grab my tools, when do we start?

But seriously, I enjoy reading the positive posts, and good refferals are the best selling points, IMO.

Rebuilding an old engine vs. starting from scratch shouldn't make much difference. In fact, scratch should be faster as the shop doesn't have to tear down, clean, inspect and fix worn parts as he would if brought an exsisting engine.

Any shop telling customers that it's taking forever because it's a fresh build is blowing smoke up your ass.

What is average timeframe ? I hear so many guys say "I missed 2 seasons waiting" that would NEVER happen to me, I would find a new person or have a lawsuit, to me a timeframe should be in contract if you are building some engines and there may be issues with timeframe.

There are 2 sides to every story, so I try to give benefit of the doubt, lots of guys complain it takes forever to get engines done, but leave out that they do not buy parts, or pay in a timely manner, but super quick to bash here on OSO.

I use Victory Engines in Cleveland Ohio, small shop, been machining for me for over 20 years with zero issues with work or timeframe, in a pinch Ray has dropped what he was doing to full machine 2 engines for me and did it in a week or so to get me back on the water.... I assemble so that saves time.

I have used Gellner once for headwork and had zero issues with them so far and had my heads in 2 weeks.... Dean will get backed up and take forever on engine work but he is a good builder and I known him for 20 years also, there has been time issues with him, but again that can be a 2 sided story....so I have no comments there, Dean has ALWAYS taken time to chat engines and help me with advice for years....

So who are some of the good guys here????? what is a "normal" timeframe to expect?

about 2 month turn around with phone calls and pictures in between if there are any unknowns. Also talks my local mechanic through any issues at any time (weekends and holidays)

2 Sterling 1100s rebuilt twice with him now…under $30,000 total (not each) both times.

He's getting them back after 2015 boating season for the 3rd rebuild.

I have been using R&R Motorsports in Benton IL for over 20 years to do my machine work and couldn't be happier. He has also done a couple af brand new builds for me. Usually takes about a month. Has a engine and chassis dyno. I own a truck repair shop and work on Fedex vans for a living. I see LOTS of blown up 5.9 Cummins and 7.3 Internationals. On more than 1 occasion, he has bored blocks and cut seats for me WHILE I WAITED. because he understands that I have to get the truck back on the road. Great people, father and son do all the work and the cleanest shop I have ever seen.
