Default why f 357 and fastech 382 same speed with same power?

I just dont understand why a newer stepped hull with 625 hp would not be faster than an old heavy 357 with 650 hp ? the SSM 3 are that much more efficient?
Ed champion confirmed on FB this 382 runs 82 mph :

by the way, a 357 really is a 35'7'' plus swim platform = 37'7''

a 382 has a molded platform so 382 overall length

so lenght does not make a big difference IMO...

Interesting question and comparison.
I would think the stepped hull with all things equal should be faster but surely SSM 3 could not make up this difference? wow . That then begs the question if all things really are equal in the claims.

700hp 580" motors in my hawk did 82, same power swapped into a 382, same drives...... 82 not the best hull. I don't personally like anything about them, handle weird, don't take the chop or slop all that well, obviously not that efficient.

My 2002 382 with 628hp would pull 87 with the right props. I rarely ran WOT and instead propped the boat for mid-range. Although stepped, I believe the steps are so conservative that they don't really help that much.

FYI: 628hp and 699tq fully dressed on a dyno.

Then why my 357 with 485 hp ran 62-63-64 and a 382 500 efi runs 10 mph faster?

357 is a big heavy boat, and they're usually wet. Not saying yours is, as I've seen a couple nice ones but most are wet and rotted.

Kevin never got it over 82, maybe he had other issues. But your cig is 5 mph faster with 150 less hp
