These are the kinds of travel that don’t require a license:
Family visits Official government business Journalistic activity Professional research / meetings Educational activities Religious activities Public performances. Athletic Competitions, Clinics, Exhibitions Support for the Cuban people Humanitarian projects Activities of private foundations or research institutes Exportation, importation or transmission of information Certain authorized export transactions When I look at the list that would allow us to go, I wonder if a " Poker run " could be considered an Athletic Competition ( might be a stretch ) or certainly just as we took a dozen large hampers of school and toiletry products that are in scarce supply there, should be considered " Support for the Cuban people or a Humanitarian project". Hopefully US Customs will agree. I think they get their marching orders from Treasury Department and not sure how long for that to get passed down to the local level. Once there I have some contacts that can help us with distribution etc. Bob |
I think poker runs fall under Religious activities :D

When we flew over on the way to Jamaica, I didn't know you were allowed to enter their airspace. Kept watching for SAMs to fly up at us.

Always wanted to go. Seems like it will be a time capsule

Many other beautiful Islands in the Caribbean to visit without supporting a Communist regime . The Cuban government will benefit the most from this action . The Cuban people will also benefit , but not what they deserve after all these years . Just my opinion , growing up in S. Florida and sometimes being the only non Hispanic employee in a business employing 100 + people .

Flying over Cuba about ten years ago on the way to Jamaica i remember my travel agent saying it was only a matter of time that it was going to open up. She had just returned from a trip there if memory serves, heck i didnt think you could go there at all. She went on about how it was going to be the next vacation hot spot in the Caribbean  My buddy from Ireland went there for his honeymoon a few years back. Lived in FL, went home to Ireland for the wedding, flew to Cuba for his honeymoon and then back to Florida (through the Bahamas I suspect). He loved it (big on diving, drinking and smoking cigars).......his bride felt it was like a 3rd world country, crappy hotel by her standards and she just felt the whole place sucked. Crazy enough.......they are still married! :D |
I am thinking, if you dock boat then go right to church you are good to go under "Religious activities"
