LSX Engines Lacking Power

I don't think so. A good read below.

Interesting. Those look like aftermarket heads, whose? 15-1 Compression is really high but 950 HP on 471 cubes is stout.

Those LSX engines are a great platform.

Billy Briggs is the real deal. I disliked that platform till I had a couple that made insane stock (boosted) HP.

JIMKID Motorsports 01-29-2015 06:55 AM

Those are edelbrock heads splayed valve like big block mast was the first to have those heads big flow numbers Moses is mast head

Wowzers, great package. How many hours you think @ 15:1 in a street application (miles I would guess).

I think the ecoboost is a neat little motor, but I've always wondered why they get so much more hype then GM's little dual overhead direct injected 3.6L. You should see the power these little buggers make when you add some boost!

honestly,i'm only mildly impressed.
397ci,14.5-1 efi sb2.2 982hp @ 8600 NA,that with what we found out later was a soft combustion chamber.over 1300 w/ juice.top sportsman motor.
his second small block 409 made over 1050hp NA,1 off CFM heads.that motor could take 800hp of nitrous.

i was watching a great show "How its Made".... exotic cars... some amazing engines on there! the bugatti W16 and W12 are fasinating but an engine that caught my interest was they were building the porche 918 hybrid car everyone should watch that show its an amazing piece of technology the engine is a 4.6 V8 with exaust in the center of the V naturaly aspirated 680hp and it looks like it would make a neat boat package anyone else see that episode?

thanks for the info,,when does it start to build boost?

turbom700 02-02-2015 10:29 AM

How are you guys water cooling the exhuast housing on the turbo's?

Did they come with waterjackets from garrett or did you add them?

Just courious as my long term plan for my LS pontoon is two small turbo's. Turbo toon has a nice ring to it.

We are having them manufactured. We are selling them as complete engine packages or DIY kits.

Turbo 'toon souds awesome!

Always seems like the SAMs students and their entries are always in the money. They seem real sharp, too bad there is not a marine program like that offered.

2000 HP LSX Turbo

http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...811-lsx-block/

Also theres an article about the new 454R LSX makes 770 hp on 454 cubes. Admittedly its a drag racing engine but they mentioned they built it for durability. Intersting point in the article is they talk about how much air the LSX will flow.

It is cost as to why they are not more common.

Precision 02-04-2015 10:34 AM

Cost less build a 1000HP LS than a 1000HP BBC from all new parts.

Cost less to run the LS as well.

SS930 02-04-2015 12:52 PM

Ryan,

While I'm a huge fan of your LS work, I question weather a 1000 hp LS engine would have the reliability and durability needed for sustained marine abuse.

I know they will make the power, I just don't know that I'd bet on one running as long as a traditional (say 540ci turbo/SC BBC) for sustained periods of time being heavily loaded in an offshore at the 1000 hp levels.

Regardless, please keep up the great development work on the turbo charged LS platform, your work has a lot of potential!

With aftermarket block, crank, and heads at least? I'm asking not because I know, but just casual observations seem that aforementioned stuff is more upfront $ to the Ole big block stuff. And I'm assuming a reliable everday 1000 hp Ls has to be boosted. No 15:1 engine is gonna be very practical.

tmmii 02-04-2015 10:20 PM

What's everyone do for the accessories? Run the ugly car stuff or can you make marine brackets fit?

You can basically use the car stuff, but Hardin/CP makes a sea water pump/bracket that fits in place of where the AC would normally mount.
