Sell it for $1 to someone in a no title state.
Buy it back from them for $1 with bill of sale and your states out of state transfer documents.
Register trailer in your name, in your state.
Pay taxes on $1.
You now have transferable title.
This is all moot if buyer is from a no title state.

Last boat I purchased was from KY which is a no title state for trailers.

I bought a boat from a state that doesn't title trailers, and it wasn't a big deal.
Here in MI, VIN, weight, & taxes is the only thing that matters.

From the sounds of it, even though the dealer is being a douche, you have / or have access to everything you need.
I don't think it is as big of a deal as you think, good luck.

The manufacturer won't give me anything the plate on the trailer doesn't already say.

Since I didn't buy the trailer from them direct there us very little they will do outside of giving me a spec sheet maybe.

Shouldn't the dmv be able to look up the # and show if the taxes were paid? Not sure how it works there though.

I will the trailer manufacturer one more call.

Give them the story about how the dealer just isn't helping at the moment and see if they can do something more for me.

Thanks guys

Nate.

Who made the trailer? At this time just get them to email you the wieght and face it, you are going to have to pay the tax on it.

It really isn't going to be that hard, hell make up a bill of sell if you have to. All the state really cares about is getting tax money, just don't make the bill of sell be way out of wack compared to what a KBB has the trailer value at.

The manufacturer should be able to provide an MSO or a duplicate copy.

I just didn't want to pay tax again. I will if need be but paying it once to a big name dealer here should have been enough.

In reality I will prob end up double paying the taxes sadly.

They wouldn't the first time I called. They would just confirm who bought it.

They said if I would have bought it factory direct they would get me the MSO.

I too thought they would just fax/email a MSO even if it was from the dealer. That way the check I wrote and the dates all line up.

Don't see how you can be charge tax twice on the purchase. Didn't you state that you have a bill of sale for the trailer? The taxes already paid should be shown on the bill of sale. If that is the case, you may pay a penalty for non applying for title in the allotted time frame, (15 days in Michigan) plus cost of title. Only way you'd pay tax on the trailer twice is if you can't substantiate that you've already paid them.

Maybe the trailer dealer figures you are not in that big of a rush since its been over a year since you got the trailer .
