Story update:
Joe Sgro underwent an MRI and reportedly, with the possibility of a concussion, everything has checked out fine.
I spoke with Steve Curtis who said that neither he nor Sgro can recall rolling over in the boat. Both skegs were torn off the drives, so it may in fact have been a spin. In the photo sequence I look at while reporting from German reporter Sven Sieveke, it appeared that the boat had rolled. However, the accident displaced a tremendous amount of water in the air so the boat may, in fact, have remained upright through the incident.

Mike's death was not from a head injury. He passed away from complications during surgery for his broken leg. I've heard from reliable sources that Joe is doing ok
