Default 350 verado weight vs 225 verado weight

so i looked on mercury marines website and it says that the 225hp version of the verado is only 635lbs vs the new 350 verado which weighs 668lbs. i don't much about outboards in general but cant comprehend why 125 extra horsepower only weighs 33ish extra lbs? what parts/components do they manipulate and change to squeeze those horses out? just curious

I've never looked at these engines, but is it a matter of adding a SC?

From what I read, they are the same engine platforms with different ECM's.
A lot of times they will sell the ecm's off a blown or submerged powerhead.
There are also a few companies that will reflash them.
The lineups below are all the same platforms.
225 - 350
175 - 200
150
75 - 90 -115

On the smaller lineup, usually an air restricter and a few small differences.

Plenty of reading out there on other websites.

If they're both supercharged, it could just be that the 350 uses a bigger supercharger or intercooler, or both. It could also be that some internals in the engine or the drivetrain are also beefed up to handle the extra power.

so in a nutshell mercury produces only engines that are exact copies (some small variation) but changes the horsepower rating with the ecus in the enigne? all it is is just small configurations and squeezing the last ounce out of the blocks? and if thats true is the 225 going to last longer vs the 350 due to the block and everything running at a more modest tune?
