Too many variables to provide much feedback. How much does the boat weigh? passenger load?... etc. Stock Mercury parts or Bravo upgrades like gears and shafts Max Machine? What props are you running? You might get more feedback if you provide more info on your boat and how you use it.

I think they can handle a decent amount of touque. It is shock that puts them out of commission.

If you do a search you will see they can handle 300-800 lbs of torque.

On the serious side, it all depends on the variables. Weight of boat, where you boat, single or twins, how you drive, etc. A buddy had a 700+hp engine in front of a stock Bravo and it lasted for 4 or 5 years. When he grenaded that one, he put a Bravo X behind it and never had any problems. But he was easy on the holeshots and didn't get into big water often. He went with the X over the XR based on some advice from a very knowledgeable member.

Yep! No one can be perfect on the throttles. Torque rating is useless.

I believe they came out with the 575SCi's so I'll say they're "rated" at 575hp. What can they actually take, too many variables.

I know it might lose 1 MPH but running 140 weight made a big difference in my boat.

I have stellings boxes and the whole drive line is steel. Between putting it in gear and possibly idleing in no wake zones the gears looked peened/hammered. I assume maybe the lope of the cam combined with the steel driveline doesnt help but after 5 years the 2 things that made the biggest difference are the Machine Max Works top cap WITH 7/16 studs and running 140 weight drive lube did the most for me.

XR's came with 600SCi package as well.
Older 600SC's used regular Bravos.
