Turkey is not new to Class 1 offshore powerboat races. There have been a total of five Class 1 races held in Turkey, beginning with the Turkish Grand Prix, which was held in Istanbul in 1998, when over 1.500.000 spectators lined the Bosphorus - an all-time record for Class 1. Istanbul again hosted the Turkish Grand Prix in 1999. That same year, the Aegean Grand Prix was held in Bodrum.

1,500,00 spectators, we feel great if we can get 10 to 20 thousand at a race. I'm impressed.
