I thought real seriously about putting mine on my ScarabIII but knew I was selling it and didnt want to lose them, saving them for a new Batboat.

18 k for a drive . . . . they were like thirty five hundred back in 01 . . . .

You make a good point on the huge price spike in drives Dave.
A new XR setup fetches over 25k. The SCX IMCO's I priced last year were over 35k each. Then your next step up comes with a 30 year mortgage payment attached. Is it just me, or shouldn't we expected a service life that lasts until they're paid off? Going way out on a limb, possibly a warranty to match.... Depreciation is so quick on Merc drives, I doubt a banker would even make you a loan.

And don't ask me if I have any to sell yet. It is a work in progress...

All the parts in the drive can/will break if you fly the boat, hammer it, basically drive like an idiot.
The question I have is that after i have had drive service, i noted more whining at 3 grand. Maybe i just noticed it or was it always like that?. I have no problem with my drives of drive guy. But they sound like a Muncie M22 . I have the 04 XR drives.

Is that right, 35k for a SCX?

The bravo to arneson conversions in the classifies are 24k each!

My bad.

I was including tax and external steering costs in that 35k. Here is the quote I received for SCX drives and hardware without external steering or tax. I was told that was my "dealer cost" from a company I purchase performance parts from. Not sure of list price.

You were also quoted a extra 16K for complete IMCO transom assembly's, vice the usual helmet change.

Yaep . Lots of extras. It's still about 15 grand a pop for the drives. I think you can bolt on an upper and lower directly to a Bravo set up ..

So It is a lot like having either a turbo 400 or a turbo 350 transmission in a hot rod. You have the SCX ( turbo 400) and the (XR) turbo 350. The Turbo 400 takes more horse power to operate, but it will twist a drive shaft off. And the turbo 350 takes less power but will explode in a hard shift 2 second..

Here it the solution. Build more horse power and run the scx drive.
