What I did tonight will take many hours to put back together

The boat goes to have the gel coat on the bottom and other places fixed. And while it is there the dash gauge holes are going to get filled. and the exhaust holes and others on the transom also. After it comes back from there then the new gauges go in and the boat will get rewired. ( the wiring was a mess ) Then the extension box goes on and the new motor goes in. A lot of work to do in the next 5 weeks.
|
Good luck with your project. That is a lot of work to get done in five weeks.
|
Good luck. Don't put to much pressure on yourself with a timeframe. That's a lot of work. Can't wait to keep seeing pics as you go.

Made a few changes.
Now the real work begins - putting it all back together . |
Next step is installing the extension box. going up a little more. Was at 1 inch above - thinking on going up another 1 1/2 inches. At least going up 1 inch.
I had the bottom of the outdrive cut out filled 1 1/2 inches. and all of the bolt holes filled. Had ALL of the screw and bolt holes in the engine compartment filled and the entire engine compartment painted with awlgrip. |
Is this the daytona ?? Looking nice an clean
|
looks very clean

Started putting it all back together today.
temporary mounting of the box to get the height of prop shaft. Going up another inch. It will be 2 inches above the lowest point of the bottom. Tomorrow I drill holes. got all the new gauges yesterday. so after mounting the box tomorrow I drill holes in the dash for the new gauges and then start rewiring the entire boat. Looks Good!

Still needs to go up 3/8 of an inch. good guess for the first try.
|
Had it all held up with two C clamps with wood blocks to protect the new paint on the inside.
That should move the CG back a little. That and the big M tall deck block. |

Looking good!

Very nice! Who did you use for your powder coating?
|
Southwest sandblasting. East of 131, south of burton.
Working on the wiring today. WOW what a mess. When I got this boat half of the stuff didn't work. The boat didn't even have an exhaust blower installed. |
Got the dash wired - I forgot how much of a pain it was to wire a boat dash. Now is the fun part adding wires for the future stuff. Also I am wiring it the way it should come from the builder. WHY is there a 10 gauge red ( HOT ) wire powering all of the stuff in the boat and only a 16 gauge wire as the negative. SO I added a 10 gauge wire direct from the battery to the negative block. AND a 16 gauge negative wire that will feed all of the lighting and a separate one for all of the bilge pumps ( 3 ) and the blower. And I will run a separate 12 gauge hot and negative for the hatch ram.
|
Very nice work.
Next dash I do, I am going to make up a template of the with all the gauges and switches and wire that on my bench. When I can get as far as I can I will transfer the loom to the boat and finish it. Never done this but that is how manufacturers do it. Sure would be easier on the body. |

Did a little plumbing today. The box is installed, the hydraulic steering is almost done, the gauges are installed and the boat is wired. The bilge pumps are glued in place ( all three ) Tomorrow I install the canopies and the rub rail. Next week I should get my engine parts back from the machine shop. ( it took forever to get the crank from CROWER )

Wow it is heard to form 3/16 stainless tubing. And flaring it was no fun either. Only had to re bend one of them a little.
That picture is from inside the box. Looking through the outdrive opening. |
Awesome work man......

note to self when working with black 4200 sealant. WEAR latex gloves. That crap is runny and gets on everything.

It has been a long time since I have built anything with so many pretty parts. ( And expensive as hell too )
|
I wish i had the knowledge to assemble all those parts
|
it's okay, i'm right there with you
|
Just like building with tinker toys. The tools are just more expensive. And everything must be real clean. The fun is that there are some parts that I have never used before. JESEL shaft rockers and JESEL belt drive for the cam. I will have to learn how to properly install and shim the shaft rockers. No hurry. Take time to do it right.

Who makes that oil pan?

I haven't taken all of the pieces out of the box yet. Does the kit come with shims? I understand that you shim the rocker assembly up so that the travel is centered on the valve stem just like regular rockers and then use an adjustable push rod for measuring length.
Are there any tricks or special things I should know about the belt drive? |
Finally dropped the engine in the boat last Sunday late afternoon. Installed the transom assembly onto the extension box tonight and what do you think are odds of the engine alignment tool going into the coupling when the engine is just sitting on the back mounts with a 2x4 and a scissors jack holding up the front. I just eye balled it. It isn't perfect but the tool went right in. I have to shim up the back of the engine about 1/4 inch so that the shaft is centered on the hole in the front of the box.

Work has kept me from finishing the project in time to get it on the water during warm weather. I did manage to get it on the water today for testing. Running the same outdrive and prop ( Bravo labbed 30 )
Prop shaft is now 2 inches above the bottom of the boat. I still don't have the interior or the engine cover on. Good news is the boat got on plane but ran like crap. I took the carb off of last years engine that was dialed in almost perfect. It ran SOOOO rich it was fouling out the plugs. I made two try's to get on plane and put it back on the trailer. I think I am going to have to go to a 5 blade because once on plane it seemed to slip a lot. I will have to dial in the carb and try it again. So far so good. Awesome man. Love when a project comes together. Did carb get gummed up sitting with fuel in it?

Right now I am running 750 HP with a 1.34 ratio drive. I would like the 30 pitch. What prop worked best on your boat?
|
No the carb didn't get gummed up it is just jetted for the 509 that was in the boat last year. I thought it would at least be close. BOY was I wrong. I never let fuel sit in the tanks or carb for any length of time more than a month. I pump the tanks dry and run the carb dry also.
