I know it doesnt have valves and therefore probably a little more difficult to build compression from the standard Optimax platform. But, why arent they bumping the compression waaaayyyy up by milling the power head to get a higher compression and higher target horsepower?

I did not see weight specs on the OXE site. Any weight specs?

The 3.0-liter V-6 OptiMax Diesel outboard reportedly shares 95 percent of its components with the gasoline-powered counterpart. Only a few unique parts are necessary to produce it as a diesel outboard.

Remember when GM made a diesel from their gas engine?

/\ my thoughts exactly. I know when gm took their gas motor and converted it to diesel, it sucked. Will this end up the same way?

and no mention of it ever being for public use either.

A two stroke diesel will not be fuel efficient or ever be able to pass emissions but it will make a lot of power for its weight. When they come out I'm going to buy one and build a turbo kit for it and see if we can double the HP.

the old Detroit diesels were 2 stroke...I still run one on a small gen unint (671) not that bad on fuel and is made for high rev constant load. and yea the gm conversions sucked to high heaven!!!!!!!!!

I am very intrigued by the idea of a diesel outboard. Would be awesome for a CC and island hopping!

The belt drive system Oxe has looks like a pretty cool set up. It would be easy to carry a couple spare belts around and feel really secure.

Dod orders it and dep keeps it from ever getting into the public sector. Kinda ironic the government demands they have it but the general consumer can't have it
