Memorial day carnage

Alright, who broke what?

My lake is flooded, didn't even get to take mine out.

endeavor1 05-25-2015 02:55 PM

Mines high and dry at Texoma. No need to risk damage during this record flood

compedgemarine 05-25-2015 05:44 PM

dont know but it has a pretty good rattle now. you are not having fun if nothing breaks.

aquaholic58 05-25-2015 05:44 PM

Alternator took a crap

vintage chromoly 05-25-2015 05:51 PM

The U-joint on the PTO on my tractor went south today. :poopoo::poopoo:

Yes I know how you feel. At least mine was last fall. Just got it in the boat this weekend. It ran great but I cringe at every noise .
Good luck

What's the guy that spec'd all the parts for you saying?

ohh wow 05-25-2015 06:11 PM

I went out for the day on Saturday. Took my bay boat and the Cigarette. Only thing that I broke was a bone in my left wrist.
While I was riding in the bay boat, I took a wild ride after hitting some pretty big wakes from other boats.
I hung on and rode it out. Got pretty beat up and lucky that's all I broke. One of those things that you say ' that will never happen to me'.
In a splint now and will see an orthopedic this week.

Other than that, both boats did great. We had a good time.

windship 05-25-2015 06:13 PM

No issues on Lake Lanier! Blue skies and 100+ all weekend

G'dam son. I give you crap but I hate to see that. Dropped valve?

sleev-les 05-26-2015 04:31 AM

Nothing broke this weekend.. My broken issues started before the weekend, but got fixed. My cousin's bf may have lost his motor, but I'm thanking the gods that mine ran awesome and definitely better than last season with the top end redone on the starboard. Winter the port motor is getting done...

Not sure yet looks like it stuck in guide but still investigating..

B38 05-26-2015 05:45 AM

Ran warm on that cylinder. Swelled valve in guide and wacko. Bummer. I did that twice before I figured out the issue.

Man,
That truly sucks sorry to see that...
I worked around the house most of the weekend, went tubing in the Hydrostream on Sat, took my youngest and her bf, got rained on a little on the way back to the dock.
Carnage: Stereo Head stopped working in the Hydrostream, but I got extended warranty on it at West Marine, exchanging it this evening after work.....

Drivehard 05-26-2015 09:19 AM

my house battery crapped the bed. Was lowering the windlass, and all of a sudden, everything went totally dead. House battery would show 13+ volts with no load, but as soon as any load was applied, it dropped to below 8 volts. Swapped it out on Sunday, and back on the water.

DucBoy 05-26-2015 10:27 AM

I broke my all-time speed record, even with full tanks, 4 people, and only 5# boost!! Still dialing it in, loving the new blowers!!

Gladhe8er 05-26-2015 10:45 AM

Lost a trailer bearing cap on way to ramp. Dunked it in anyways. One repacked bearing on the first weekend is not bad...some of you guys had it a lot worse!

I am sorry for your bad luck, I have seen that twice recently, one was a bad valve guide that wore out and let the valve get jammed broke off went across the intake and busted the opposite cylinder too, second was a water leak in the exhaust that took all the lube out of the valve guide and it stuck.

I am assuming you have bronze valve guides. Hope you figure the problem out quickly.

This was at 6 am this morning in Tenn. hope she makes it back to Michigan on 5. Bummer we bent the axle.

CDShack 05-26-2015 11:34 AM

lost IAC on the ski boat. They don't idle with a crap without it!!! haha!

Speedracer29 05-26-2015 12:39 PM

Problem- helm seal leaking. Solution- replace helm seal. Time allotted- 1hr (ha!!!)
Result- fail due to cheap puller (not in photo, threw it across yard)
2nd attempt- 3 jaw puller, modified on bench grinder.
Result- fail. Aluminum hub seized to helm shaft, confirmed.
3rd attempt- angle grinder, cut off wheel, modified puller
Result- partial success. Destroyed hub, excellent reason to buy new wheel/hub. Helm seal replaced, no leak detected.

I did it chasing the Coast Guard (really!!!)!! I was stuck at Shooters waiting for the bridge so they did a safety on me (didn't board - I was fully sober and had everything). We gave each other some good-natured ribbing waiting for the bridge. When the bridge went up, they edged to the front and I got stuck behind a searay that would have made a asscar teammate proud for its blocking job. CG hit the sticks at the mouth and took off at WOT, I finally got around the SR and took off after them. They made the turn into the station just as I caught up. Still some dialing to do (running way rich) and I probably need to take 2 teeth out of the blower pully (I'm thinking 7.5# is where I want to be with 30 degre advance and 8.5# static compression on 1471s, with intercooler (tripple water pump pushing a ton of water through dual -12 in and out on TBS intercoolers - flow rate is so high I get just 10# water pressure at 5500 rpm) and aluminum heads running 90 octane.

So you didn't catch the CG boat running nearly 60mph? :evilb:

DucBoy 05-26-2015 03:12 PM

Actually, he runs over 70 (it was the new one, not the outboards), had a 2-3 minute head start from the mouth of the river, and it was less than a mile, so no, I didn't catch him....

DucBoy 05-26-2015 03:13 PM

...but I'm still running and I might next time!!!

Well, great news for you. Hopefully we'll get to run by the end of the summer. A few more snags in my project, hopeful to make your run, but it's not looking very good.

Dude! Say it isn't so! Is it the hatch? Those engines and that engine compartment are so pretty you should have just gone with a plexiglass hatch!! (like a Ferrari F-430!).

frickstyle 05-26-2015 04:12 PM

A Combination of everything. Too many people involved doing different things to finish it up, it only adds time. Hopeful to splash her in July now (was June, but I'm used to the disappointment by now).

That sucks. If you need a ride to tide you over, let me know. I'm supposed to do some tune in time with Dean in the next week or so if you want to ride along...

buck183 05-26-2015 11:11 PM

Weather was crap. That was the worst part. Finally found a hole in the forecast on Monday afternoon. Not my favorite day to go out on Memorial Day, but it's better than nothing.

Started the motors and backed off the trailer. Port motor won't stay running. Fouled plugs. Crap. Managed to get them cleared up enough to run it for the day.

Starter on port motor was dragong intermitantly and would stop cranking on occasion. Great, time to buy a new starter. Managed to get through the day. Went to pull it tonight. Found a loose nut on the main battery cable to starter. Even better, no need to remove starter and have rebuilt. Problem solved.

Still have to replace spark plugs.

Buck

Picked up new stereo from West Marine last night, going to install it in the Talon, and put the old 1 out of the Talon, into the Hydrostream. Now the stereo in the Talon is all brand new! :)

Hell yes I would. I was gonna ask if I could get a ride this season. I have never been in a 42' OL, wanted to compare ride quality with that and some other models (T/S Top Gun), for future plans....

Really like the idea of an Outerlimits in a couple years.....

What kind of axles are you running? I have a few extras laying around... not too far away from ya when you get back home

DocktorsOarders 05-27-2015 08:46 AM

No issues... had a good weekend, well Sunday. Rained Monday and did the family BBQ thing on Saturday. Speed still not where I am expecting. Need to swap some blades, but all in all, weekend was problem free....
