C.O.P.S. Run September 14th! Who's going?
I spoke with Jack today. He is running all over town trying to make last minute arrangements. We will have a definite answer on the helicopter tomorrow.
We will meet a Diversey Harbor on “F” dock. The run is to Hammond Marina, which is 17.7 miles south of Diversey. There will be a slip charge at Hammond to tie off. The slip fee is half the overnight rate and gives us the slips for 4 hours. The overnight rate for a 35' is $35.00. The lunch will be served at the Horseshoe Casino buffet. The cost is $13.95 per person. They are going to section off part of the restaurant for our group. Pictures from the last run will be available for viewing. The schedule is: 10:00 to 12:00 check in at Diversey 12:30 a short drivers meeting 12:45 tentative departure depending on the helicopter. Sunday will be the bad weather date. If the run is cancelled or postponed Jack would like to meet at Diversey on Saturday to look at pictures. I will post any changes. If you plan to attend please post what kind of boat and group size. Jack can be contacted at 773-209-8301 or email [email protected] Thanks you, Dan My cell phone # is 708-218-1566 |

Sounds like I'm going to be able to make it 29 PQ 2 to 5 people, hopefully they will let me know before sat morning.
Should be bringing a 29 Baja also with 3 people, maybe a 26 HTM with 2 people. I believe I'm going to go to Nothpoint to put in should be there around 9:30 to 10:00. ActiveThunderTodd hopefully I can meet up with you or someone there since none of us have a clue where we are going from there. If there is a cancelation even on saturday morning please call me on my mobil at (Rich) 309-275-3436. since this is a 3 hour drive. I can always turn around. I plan on leaving around 6:00am. Thanks guys hope to meet many of you up there:D :D |
Mr. Cig, is there any chance Barb and I could ride with Fox Hunter? We were planning on riding with Jafo but he called last night to say he wouldn't be able to bring the AT.
|
Crazyhorse,
I will let you know about Saturday. I should be talking to Jim in the next day or so. I've got to fix my washing machine tonight. It decided not to spin this morning. Yahoo!! So far the weather is not looking good for Saturday. North winds at 20mph = Big waves down here Mark |
Wally,
Sorry to hear about Karl & Deanna's puppy. I hope everything turns out ok. He is such a cute dog. I should have room for you if you want to catch a ride. I need to call Cigwille and see if he is coming also. I know you'd prefer riding with one of the 47's or maybe the Apache. I'd leave mine parked to go with them. :p My cell is 708-218-1566. Dan |

The bad weather day is Sunday the 15th. I hope these weather guys are wrong about the weekend. There are no plans to run the following weekend if this weekend doesn’t happen. If Saturday is cancelled there will still be a lunch at the DIVERSEY YACHT CLUB. The pictures will be there to view.
If this weekend were cancelled would anyone like to get something together for the following weekend. It wouldn't be a C.O.P.S. run just a group of boats having fun. We could throw a Michigan City run together with little planning. We could tie off at the municipal wall in MC and walk across the drawbridge and eat at Matty's. There is no slip charge there and we could order off the menu. Bridges is about a 2-block walk and they have great grilled Hot Dogs and Burgers. Bridges is a small place with 8-10 slips at the restaurant. We could tie off boats at the wall and boat pool! Another idea would be Pastrick Marina. They have a long wall to tie off to and have let boats raft before. Any input would be appreciated. I want this summer to go as long as it can. November 15th was my last boating day last year. I hope the weather will hold out for us. Dan This is a picture of the wall at Pastrick. Sorry about the boats that got in the way of my cool shot! :D |
I'll be there in a 29 PQ (weather providing). I should have about 2-4 people with me. I look forward to meeting all of you OSO members! Thanks again for the help Dan!

This is the wall at Michigan City.
|
Dan that sounds like a great idea! Keep me posted if you decide to pull something together.
|
wes29,
Glad to be of help.:D I do need to warn you that these runs can become very expensive. Just when you think your boat is perfect a 47' Fountain with Triple’s pulls up. See you on Saturday weather gods permitting. Dan |
PWRQWST,
Are you sure you want to go to North Point? I would think Hammond would be much closer. How close are you to 57? I can get you exact directions if you want. North Point is 56.7 miles north of Hammond. Diversey is 17.7 miles north of Hammond. Hammond would be approximately 168 miles from Clinton. North Point would be 207 miles. Dan |
If the weather is good you can count us in for 1 boat and 2 people.
This morning i saw 1 forecasts, 1 says 75 8mph S winds and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. The other says 20mph out of the North and 71. I guess it depends when the front moves throuugh. I was thinking about running from Portage, maybe putting in at Hammond would be better. We won't be able to make it on Sunday if the run is delayed. |
I'm in.
31 Excalibur, 3 people. That is if, I can get my trim tab pump fixed. DS |
Payton,
I like the first forecast. Lets hope its another great weekend. Zanie, I hope you get it fixed. Where are you launching that day? Dan |
You can count me in, I will be launching from Northpoint.
1 Boat 2 to 4 people. (26 Donzi ZX) I plan on leaving Northpoint around 10:00, I know that there are others that are planning on leaving from there around the same time if any would like to go down as a group I would lets start to work on that. My cell is 847-691-2533 |

Hammond will work for me I was just thinking that if I put in there I would not get as much running time, but it sounds like you are going to run to Diversity and then back so that would be fun to us. What time are you looking to leave Hammond? That way I will know what time I need to be in the water and ready to go. Int 55 is how I will be coming I have to pick someone up in Bloomington. Int 55 to Int 80 then east. Thanks for the info. Again if it gets canceled please call me even that morning (Rich) 309-275-3436. Looking forward to this:D :D |
Candyman,
I'll most likely launch at Alsip. Hopefully I can hook up with MR. CIG for the ride up th Cal Sag. Hey MR CIG, what time do you suppose you will be leaving your dock? DS |
SmilinBob,
We'll be at Northpoint launching around 10:00 as well. Todd |
Zanie,
We will probably leave aroung 9:30 or so. Just in case we get stuck by a barge at the locks. That will give us enough time to pick up the other boats at Hammond. Mark |
PWRQWST,
I am launching out of Alsip and running the river to Hammond. I hope to leave Hammond by 10:30. Last time our group was late! I don't want to let that happen again. I’ll give you a call on directions. If you guys don't mind running the river you could meet us at the Alsip boat launch. Otherwise there are other boats form Indiana meeting us at Hammond also. I will call you with directions to Hammond. There is a back roads way to get there that will save you time and traffic hassles. MR.CIG, How about leaving a little earlier? Maybe 9:00?? Let me know. It will give us some time extra time at Diversey to checkout the boats.;) Zanie, What do you think about meeting at 9:00? Dan |
Jack forgot to mention that there will be a charge like last time for the helicopter. It depends on how many boats do the run as the actual cost. The last run was $30.00.
|
Candyman,
Sounds good. You want me at the ramp at 9 or launched by 9? Either way is OK. One of my buddies is off work today and is running around town looking for brushes for the trim pump. I hope he comes up with something. DS |
Sounds okay to me.
Mark |
The weather does not look good, everyone still planning to attend?
|
Well, my buddy screwed me!
All I have is tomorrow to hopefully get it fixed. Hopefully I see you guys Sat morning |
Zoomnfun,
I guess we'll play it by ear. I'm sure Jack will make the call Friday night. There were some good shots of your boat from the last run. Dan |
Candyman
I've been watching this post and the weather channel all week. I didn't want to say I was going to show before I knew what the weather would be. It sounds like rain late in the day but warm. I'll be at Hammond around 9:30. I will trailer my boat this time and I won't be late. Somehow my ears started to burn earlier when I read "I DON'T WANT TO BE LATE AGAIN" comment. I'll have my 28 Checkmate and 1 son.:D If things change my #'s are Home 708-385-5018 South Haven 269-639-1640 Cell 708-476-5018. Hope to see you Saturday. Roger |
Quiet Storm,
I wasn't referring to Racine run. Are whole group was late to the last Diversey run. It looked like rain and even drizzled a few times that morning. We got a much later start than planed. We made it into the Diversey in time to turn around and go back out. None of us made the drivers meeting. We just followed the pack. We are leaving Alsip at 9:00 weather permitting. We should make Hammond by 10:30. It looks like the rain may hold off till late in the day Saturday. :D I'm sure Jack will make the call tomorrow night. So far it looks good. The last run was more like a Poker run unlike the Racine trip. Lots of fast boats flying. Hope to see you Saturday, Dan BTW, Are you doing anything next Saturday the 24th? I was thinking about a lunch run from Hammond to Michigan City. I'll post more on Monday. |
Candyman
I think it would be great to run to Michigan City Saturday the 21st. I would probably just come down from South Haven. Maybe more boats from the Michigan side would be interested in that run. |
Mr Cig, if Barb and I can make it at all we'll probably meet you at Hammond. We have to bring the dogs (Megan's medication schedule doesn't allow us to be away for extended periods of time) so we'll try to catch up with you after the run. Dave and Barb
|
Crazyhorse,
Your more then welcome to ride along. The weather is still iffy. Even if it rains I believe we are still going to drive up to Diversey on Saturday. If we go by boat there will be plenty of room. We will be at Hammond no later then 10:30a.m. Let me know what your plans are. Hope to see you there Mark |

I need driving directions to the Hammond marina. Also need to know what time you'd like us to be there. Thanks. Dave P.S. Being a Searay owner doesn't mean I have to wear a paper bag on my head, does it?:D
|
Due to some unforeseen circumstances I will not be able to attend the run tomorrow. I would like to thank Todd and Steve for the invite to run down with them in a group from Northpoint. I hope that the run is a big success and that the partipants have a great time.
I can't wait for more runs to be organized. :( :( |
Dave,
No problem you won't need a bag just no shirts with sail boats on them.:p I will call you guys and try to give you directions You will need to be at Hammond at 10:00a.m. on T-dock You can't miss it, the Fox Hunter is right next to the main dock on T. Mark |
