trim limit switch
Took my nova spyder to lake michigan for a sea trial today, I was pleased the engine ran great no leaks no drips the transom is water tight.got it on plane and went to adjust the trim no worky. Pulled the bolt out of the rams tied up the out drive to get home, found that the wires to the indicater and limit switches are rotted. Pulling a lower unit is as far as I have been with a I/O . Any idea what a boat shop would charge for this repair? Am I just being a *****? looks like if I got the bellhousing out maybe, will the gibal ring have come out to? I sure could use some good advice about now any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not ticked off the least bit, I am convinced I got one hell of boat for 5 grand.

I just reread this, are you saying it wouldn't go up at all? If so you're problem may be the trim pump solenoid. Although you do need new senders as well.
Fella on here sells a kit with all the necessary items to align engine coupler pull bearing etc, very reasonable. Good luck, ken |
I believe if it will trim "Down" and you can trim "Up" with the "Trailer" option (Not the Trim), you have a switch problem.
|
Nothing, no up no down trailer switch doesn't work. I pulled the trim switch and jumped out the leads, nothing. Yes ken I think your rite I do suspect the solinoids as well, the sender leads are smoked sure would like to find the guy with the kit you read my mind I won't put the stern back together untill I m sure of alignment, gimble bearning and bellows u joints the whole deal. Thanks for the imfo fellas it all helps.

Mine did the same last week. No up with trim switch because I changed to an hp transom assembly, and now the trailer up took a chit. Clicks but no motor kicking on. Had to jump it with a wire to get the drive up.
I'll dig into mine tomorrow and see if I can come up with a solution that may help you also. |
The solinoid on mine are not clicking so I'm sure to be dealing with more than one issue. I new going in ther would be issues its a1987. I'm realy jazzed abought this boat, lake michigan had soft 3 1/2 foot swells I could run 35-40 mph without needing a kidney belt, I thought she rode pretty good for a 26' hull I'm motivated il getter done.

Check out all of the breakers , fuses and what not, I'll see if I can find the guy I bought my kit from. I believe that he's fairly local to you.
edit in, the guy I bought my stuff from is whoya on here, great deal ! |
Mine turned out to be the up solenoid. Replaced an all is good.
There are a couple connections by the pump. It could be one of those loose or perhaps a broke wire at a connector. If they're not clicking, I'd check the red I believe single wire with a black connector. That was the one that fed my engine trim switches. I found a pin that had worked its way loose in my benett tabs last week. Pushed it back in and life is good. |
The trim pump will also have an inline fuse that feeds power to solenoids (small wire not the main power feed to pump). It is located at the pump. Check fuse and connector. You need a volt meter and 10 min. to trouble shoot this circuit. GOOD LUCK.

Hamer-r-down your the winner! Got the new trim senders in and finally got to trouble shoot the rest female end hotwire to the fuse no continuity. You nailed it. But I have thank all of you who posted with your ideas, this is what its all abought

Put on the water muffs to get the new carb dialed in, floats& idle mix felt somthing funny looked and the prop was spining in nuetral, when i move the stick forward in gear the shift switch kills the engine. The previus owner replaced all the cables, shift plate, I had a rough time getting the out drive back on lining up all shift stuff. I think I better pull the out drive back off it all worked nicely before I went in to do the trim senders. On the under side of the drive is a linkage I think the bottom was a arrow shaped dog the top was a U-channel they didn't want to line up. I let it idle and got the carb set up , It got a good 20 minute run time on it.That eddelbrock was washing that engines rings out, it really liked the holley. Yep oil change before the next trial
