Batteries - What is the right set up?
#12
I have Optima blue tops, combo starting / deep cycle. I just replaced one that was 6 yrs. old. My battery boxes are specific to Optimas, so I guess I am stuck for now, unless I want to buy new boxes.

. all the other sears stuff and about 90% of other brands are all made by Johnson controls.
Odyssey has its own assembly and testing lines and assembles to higher standards than Johnson controls brands as a whole.

From all my research that is correct. I'm sure there are differences between the 2 though. I bought 2 group 31 Sears platinums last year. They are 1150cca with a high reserve, can't remember off the top of my head. One battery would run my a/c off an inverter for 2 hours than turn the engine right over. If you decide to go the platinum route, wait for the sale. The price seems to change every couple of days on them. I got them on sale for almost $100 off each.

The key to making them last is not to run em down and always keep em on a trickle charger when not in use. I have group 31 commercial farm and fleet batteries. currently adding a deep cycle for the new stereo system.

Does anyone use the real small battery's
I think odessey makes them or stinger.
I see them a lot in DCB boats and a few others. Really like they are small and still pack a punch. Just not sure they will work good for stereo's??

The "real small" ones that I feel are the best are Stark Power Ultra Start. I have recently purchased two Ultra Start 1200CA, 1000CCA batteries - 4.25 # each for my Skater to replace my very heavy Optima batteries. They are the newest technology, LiFePO4. They have circuitry that keeps reserve capacity for starting when used to power ancillaries. The also include their specific required charger. Check them out at Stark Power.
