That looks like a fun boat to run around in. What kind of speeds can you get with it?

I can remember the 1st time I ran against and rode in one of them goofy little 18 Skaters.

Used to run the Baron pretty hard around Holland out on Lake Michigan back in the early 80s.

Wasn't fast, stock 260 58 mph but I would run hard , and race anything, all in good fun.

Used to hotrod with a guy who had a 21 Scarab a lot who would usually be out when I was .

It wS one of those days where there was a nice 2-3 foot soft swell and him and I are getting it, he always had my by about 1/2 mph same power but he had a pad.

So we are out there putting on our usual show for the Holland pier and this goofy looking little lake boat with a eggbeater pulls along side us and wants to run.

Good fun we say lets go, I tell you that thing rode level and fast , probably a 70 mph boat in those swells .

Guy in the 18 Skater was nice and we all shut down and BSed floating around.

So all said and done he asks for a ride in my boat ,after that the guy with the scarab takes us for a ride than we went for a ride in the Skater.

Needless to say it was Quite the Enlightening ride back than in such a little boat. Very Impressive.

3 years later I moved down to Naples Florida and within days bumped into a guy who had a Magnum 17 tunnel with a hopped up 235 Jonnyrue.

Thing would run better than 80 in the flat stuff, but he could surprisly hang with my 58 mph speed in 2/3 swells on the Gulf.

The guy was a Nut and had more Balls than sense , but the boat would surprisly run in the conditions even though it was never designed to run in them.

If you looked at that Goofy 18 Skater you would think the first wave it was going to stuff and go to the bottom, same with the old Magnum tunnel.

Great Old Memories.
