So port engine turns over great. Starboard turns over stops completely and then starts turning over slow. It is enough that I can eventually get it fired and it runs great. Connections seem good. Battery power is there. Checking the timing Thursday. What do you all suspect? Need to be good for poker run July 11. Any thoughts help. Appreciate it.

My Top Gun did exactly what you describe. Turned out to NOT be starter related. The oval water jacket port in middle of the head had corrosion and was getting water into cylinders.
The problem was mostly when it was cold. When motor was warm, it started just fine until one day the head gasket just failed.
I hope yours is starter, but i would check plugs to see if wet when starter stops turning motor.

The above is possible so check the plugs. More likely you need a sarter, I've had them do just waht you describe. Cheap to pick one up, and on the stbd not as bad to change. I've had good service from starters from DB Electrical, and they give good service. http://www.dbelectrical.com/c-2665-m...er-marine.aspx

Had the same symptoms earlier this year, nothing big was just a tired starter. New one in and it starts faster than ever.

Could also be timing if distributor motor with mechanical advance. springs could have failed or stuck in full advance
