with cocoa beach now in the books and CMS 03 taking the win, what's everyone's thoughts on the season for the the mercury 1650 teams? cms - they seem to have the merc 1650 package well dialed in on both boats, meanwhile geico encountered technical problems in cocoa, and also experienced issues in 2 of the 3 kw races last november. what's everyone's thoughts for 2015 with these two teams?

It's great to finally see competition in the UL class; last year it was mostly Geico vs Lucas, which usually turned into how many laps could MGR stack on LO. I'm hoping to see Envy get dialed in to provide Cintron level competition with their Stotlers, but they still need lots of seat time to get there, and so far the BPMs haven't allowed that.
Neither CMS has yet to be proven reliable, with endless engine swaps in KW, however when they do run, they are fast. Same for MGR...when the motors are good (without their guardian gremlins) they are VERY FAST. Aside from the gremlins, MGR seems to have the 1650 durability issue under control.
So my thoughts... given a 50% attrition rate in the UL class, and by fielding 2 boats, odds are that CMS will have strong competition against MGR at every race. That forces MGR to need to be perfect at every single race, which is a tall order.
Look for CMS to trade wins throughout the season, with MGR grabbing the wins whenever they're fully healthy.

Have to agree with what you said.

my comment has nothing to do with Mercury Racing nomenclature. it's simple math: MTI buys a helluva lot of Mercury Racing product compared to MGR and if anyone could get their hands on the ecu code I know where my vote goes.
