To keep inside of cover clean, when removing from boat pull entire cover off from back to front. Don't roll off. Just drag the whole thing from back up to the nose so it's basically doubled up. You can now roll or fold as you wish as only the soft inner is facing out. Obviously store somewhere clean!
The only time my cover comes off is when I'm using my boat.

For towing more than a few miles, consider shrink wrap. We have sucessfully used shrink for towing for over 15 yrs
