I remember the first time I called Pantera and left a message. Jo called me back a few minutes later and I assumed he wanted me to get to the point, so he could get off the phone. Instead, he was genuinely curious about how I liked my new to me boat and talked to me for 15-20 minutes. I never met Jo, but talked to him plenty of times and he was always very friendly and helpful. |
Thank You all for the kind words..... My brother left us all to fast!

Condolences from Germany. I was shocked to hear that. That is so sad. Met Jo a few times. He was a great guy. Sorry for the family.

Sorry for your loss. Here's a link to the medical term of Thymus.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thymus The thymus is a specialized primary lymphoid organ of the immune system. Within the thymus, T cells or T lymphocytes mature. T cells are critical to the adaptive immune system, where the body adapts specifically to foreign invaders. The thymus is composed of two identical lobes and is located anatomically in the anterior superior mediastinum, in front of the heart and behind the sternum. Histologically, each lobe of the thymus can be divided into a central medulla and a peripheral cortex which is surrounded by an outer capsule. The cortex and medulla play different roles in the development of T-cells. Cells in the thymus can be divided into thymic stromal cells and cells of hematopoietic origin (derived from bone marrow resident hematopoietic stem cells). Developing T-cells are referred to as thymocytes and are of hematopoietic origin. Stromal cells include epithelial cells of the thymic cortex and medulla, and dendritic cells. The thymus provides an inductive environment for development of T cells from hematopoietic progenitor cells. In addition, thymic stromal cells allow for the selection of a functional and self-tolerant T cell repertoire. Therefore, one of the most important roles of the thymus is the induction of central tolerance. The thymus is largest and most active during the neonatal and pre-adolescent periods. By the early teens, the thymus begins to atrophy and thymic stroma is mostly replaced by adipose (fat) tissue. Nevertheless, residual T lymphopoiesis continues throughout adult life. |
So sad to hear of Jo's passing. We worked some boat shows together back in the late 90's and even though we represented competing brands, Jo was always approachable and never bad mouthed another company's product. Pantera fought hard to stay in the game and Jo did his best to keep things alive...it's sad to find out he lost his battle with cancer. RIP and Godspeed.

From my mere thought surfacing of buying a pantera 36 I get a random phone call from Miami. I go on a whim and answer it. It was Jo. He somehow caught wind I was a serious potential buyer for one of his boats. We chatted for a few hours, several times for a few weeks. Learned as much as you can about a person via phone, was filled in on panteras history rather well and brought up to speed to pretty much know every screw, zip tie and fiberglass strand in my boat. He wasn't satisfied until he knew I was. There is nothing more precious that you can give another person than time. His time was cut short. I definitely appreciate every second he spent on the phone with me. Answering all my questions about this boat and what was in store for the future. Rest easy buddy and Godspeed!

My thoughts are with you all.
What a great rough water boat handler! Pepe and Linda, keep looking up, he is there! RIP |
As I am sure that this unfortunate loss is a great hardship for his family. There are more unforeseen situations that need resolving. I wish the family well in overcoming this loss. there are things that need attention., I would like to do more than wish them well . Is there a place that a check can be sent to help with all those things that come up in relation to such a situation , Paying for travel and meals and related expenses. I can send a modest check. let us know.
|
RIP, Jo. I only met you briefly but was impressed by you and your beautifull boats.
God bless, Padraig |
Sad news to hear. Condolences to his family and racing friends. Jo will be missed by many.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Jo's passing. My heart felt condolences to Pepe, Linda, Barb and Joey. Words can not describe the pain I felt with Jo,s passing. I became a throttleman because of Jo. I can say I learned from the best. For those of you that ever raced against Jo or got in a boat with him you know what I am talking about. R.I.P. Jo.....

While I certainly don't claim to know or be closer to Jo, Pepe or anyone of the Nunez family than any of you, I too am a former Pantera owner. As many of you have shared here in this thread, like you once I got to know them it's like I became a part of the family. We've remained friends & kept in touch for some 10+ yrs now. I've spoken to Jo, Pepe & young Joey several times throughout this battle. It's been extremely hard on all of them.
Pepe reached out to me earlier today sharing that they have laid Jo to rest. This was probably the most difficult thing Pepe has ever had to do. I encouraged him to get on OSO when the time is right & read the great things fellow OSO'rs are saying about his son b/c I know he will be so very proud. Pepe asked me to tell you that he appreciates all the kind words, the thoughts & prayers for the family & in due time I have confidence that he will thank you himself. When we lost Jo the family not only lost a loving husband, they lost a son any father would be proud of and a great father who has been grooming and mentoring his son since the day he was born. Thoughts & Prayers!! |
One of the most genuinely nice people in the industry. Condolences to the entire Nunez family.

This is tragic, it's been on my mind ever since it came to be posted here.

Thoughts and prayers with the Nunez family. I talked with Jo for years before he guided me into my first Pantera.

My condolences to the Nunez family. Had some dealings with Jo and Pepe it must be very difficult. I wish everyone the best. Most of my conversations were with Jo and I loved to talk with him. He would always take the time for me. We lost a very good man.

This was very sad news to read. I met Jo, Pepe and Linda prob 15 years ago during a visit to Pantera. They were all so very kind and generous with their time and Jo's wealth of knowledge was amazing! Godspeed Jo - prayers to the entire Nunez family!!
|
RIP Jo Thanks for giving me a tour of Pantera and taking the time.

So sad to hear, may he be with God.

In case of any of you missed it, I wrote my OSO column on Jo yesterday. I quoted some of you, too. RIP Jo.

Great write up Jason, thanks for sharing.
I will never forget my first ride in a Pantera w/ Jo. We didn't tool around on the ICW by Hauler, No Sir straight out the cut & jumped waves like clock work along the Miami shoreline. That very sea trial on another customers boat is what sold me and eventually another Pantera 28 was born. |
I can only imagine what Pepe and the family are going through to lose someone so young and so close. God Bless you Pepe and your family. I never met Jo but I did speak with Pepe on several occasions when I setup my boat with outboard motors. He was very gracious with his knowledge and time even though I don't own a Pantera. I did run the grey 28' that Larry Goldman sold to Rick Merola(throttle man) for Aqua Mania. Awesome product. I'm sure by speaking to Pepe that his son became just as gracious and talented as his father. RIP what a Legacy

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of him teaching his son to race carts. Sad to hear.
