Looking for an ACDelco Part #
If there is one, for the coil and ignition module on 2002 3.0L (yeh...lol) w/ EST
Sierra part for coil is 18-5443 Looks like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...UL._SY355_.jpg |
No help for an old man ? I don't ask often.
Come on - someone around here has to have a toon or bayliner or something with this little motor and done some part digging. Does it help if it has a Holley carb on it ? Cause it does. LOL. |
If you have a good napa nearby take it there and let them match it up and they'll have a cross reference
|
Have one right across the street...other than the good part. Damn.
|
|
Napa carries the Sierra line of marine parts.
|
Thanks, don't want to use Sierra if I don't have to. Aftermarket parts companies are realyy fuk'ing up their parts last handful of years. Excuse the french.
ToolateVtec - it may help. I know of all those Delco coils, but not sure if the bracket on the 3.0 coil is removable or not. http://www.summitracing.com/search/b...7%2B4294944306 I'm not with the boat. When I was (quickly) the carb had plenty of fuel, and it had spark, but very (okay, extremely) weak spark. After about 1/2 hr of boat sitting it refires, rungs good on trailer, then dies after about 5-10 minutes...all to repeat same conditions. When it won't start is when it has real weak spark. I'm trying to gather up Delco parts if possible, before I go back and get a real chance to look at it. |

Thanks for helping me see thru this. Now, onto the module...lol. Here's a bigger pic of the coil you linked: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...L._SL1500_.jpg |
Lol ok google's best guess at the image...http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2767&ppt=C0334
Time to ask siri..Actually if you can find the OMC part number that will cross to GM |
-OMC 3854002
-VOLVO 3854002-7 For: 3.0L ( 1991 & up ) -MERCURY MARINE 817378T -MERCURY MARINE 817378 |
The bracket appears to be riveted on to the coil, so that's probably why the non cross referancability (new word ?) part # wise.
Bones you hefty on $$$ too. If I can get the right Delco coil, obviously I'll have no problem drilling out the rivets and screwing or bolting the bracket back on. |
Drill out the rivets and use a small bolts and nuts to reuse the old bracket from the original. to mount up the new coil you are trying by . Bought them in the past all the time that way and think they were Borg Warner from OReillys and worked and lasted with no problems.
also AC delco has them or least did at one time. I use to get them thru them as well but forgot the number of it. bring your coil in to see if AC Delco can match it up with no bracket. |
here found this box with the OEM bad coil in my garage - yes in my garage the mini boat warehouse.
I think this is what you need but double check on it http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...ngeSearch=true but I found this to on OReilly's cross so let me know which one it is http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...ngeSearch=true |
this to but check it for your app as I think this is what I bought in the past as well
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...ngeSearch=true |
I believe a 93 chevy k2500 w/ a 454 is the one you want.thats how I find the ones I use on my boat.If you were closer,I'd give you one.
|
Yeh, I live on the other side of the world from you...in fact, it is a different world entirely...Ha !
I drove by your world Saturday....slowly.....in traffic.....that was ....tough....lol |
Hey Bup, I have to get you more Amazon Prime freindly. They carry a ton of Delco, Delphi, Denso, and etc parts for cheap w/ free 2 day shipping.
Compare Oreilly's price with this: http://amzn.com/B000BYD3WC |
Well Homey's - looks like I found the direct replacement part from AC Delco - with bracket.
Check this out : http://amzn.com/B0013FW7VQ http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Pbm4uAflL.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41xIn65j36L.jpg |
Voodo - thanks.
guess how I found it ? By pictures. LOL. ACDelco does not provide a vehicle list for this part #. So, I went to Amazon, typed in ACDelco ignition coil, and by about the 500,000 page (LMAOF) I found it. Seriously, about page 40 or so. Damn. |
|
I have you beat but without the bracket from OReillys cost for me dealer account was $26.24 last year in June and got the same as I looked for one. I drilled the rivets out then bought 1 dollar worth of correct sized bolts and nuts to remount the bracket to coil for a 2001 Volvo 3.0 L 4 banger that same engine that is in your personal boat. he he
|
AcDelco ?
Anyhow, it's not my boat. I'm getting Delco and no mod's and 1/2 the cost of Volvo/Merc. Delco without the bracket is $30.00 I deal with as little aftermarket as I can. To many comebacks and no one will pay me warranty. They say they will, but they don't. Not to mention mad customer or so. |
BTW: Did my mad internet search atleast keep an eyebrow raised ? LOL.
|
I know this 4 banger not your boat and not your engine, I would nt even personally want a 4 banger in a marine app if it was free, It is one of the worst engines in a boat and that's why Volvo Penta stopped offer the 4 banger in 2010. Most 4 bangers do not even have power steering - most Sea Ray 4 banger apps do have pwr steering to help improve selling an entry level boat and entry level engine package and to help a poor engine choice sell better. .
I do not buy Sierra ignition components either - none. Ok so you have a V-6 Volvo with a 2 bbl holley carb.with a Volvo DP outdrive for increase mid range performance . My bad. |
Alright BUP, now that the coil is settled, how about the module ?
BTW: The 3.0L is in a pontoon. Used to be the back up boat to two others, but they are using it more now. |
i have seem modulels fail and 2 pick ups fail we install a ton of those its called delco est voyager or external hei ps never had a coil fail, have seen many with broken tower for the coil wire but 0 failed in service that system is used because there are no advance weights and it idles with a lot of timing so its quiet and smooth awesome system and very hot!
|
Post your model # and year of this Volvo model
Wait to the starter goes out in pontoon boat with an I/O and for the 4 banger they break the starter bolts all the time, a very common problem. Have one in now for the exact problem but in an I/O. Also the starter for this app needs the front starter bracket installed. Just warning you way ahead of time. Do not buy the Module online as you already know - every year about 10 of these cheap junk that was installed at some point fail. This is a common problem with online / ebay ignition modules for marine - they fail in short order. Just saying |
2002 Volvo Penta 3.0
2bbl Holley. Identical to this: http://forums.iboats.com/filedata/fe...7&d=1400623626 |
that actually is a 2000 year model engine in a 2002 year model hull this is common from Volvo and the boat builders. Not saying it was used or swapped out.
I bet the engine model number has EF in it. |
here I will throw you a bone - will give U the exact set up and most likely what you have. Click on the parts link and this is the almost the same parts site that Volvo dealers use to look up their parts. Almost the same but not exact. Dealers use VPN network. So store this website to look up Volvo parts by their models
http://www.volvopentastore.com/Ignit...view_id.783346 Number 14 is what you need open link below http://www.volvopentastore.com/Ignit...view_id.783346 |
I hear you.
But if I go drive miles away, uncover some elses boat, and do it after work (past 10:00PM at night) thn I might as well pull the module and get the # from that. Just trying to do it without doing so. ACDelco site says Delco #D1965A crosses to NAPA #TP59. Clicking applications in Slapa's / Napa's site for their TP59, says the following applications: Mercruiser Marine 3.0L 135 hp 1998 - 2007 Mercruiser Marine 3.0L 140 hp 1980 - 1986 Mercruiser Marine 5.0L 240 hp EFI 1998 - 2002 Mercruiser Marine 5.7L 315 hp Black Scorpion 1997 - 1998 Mercruiser Marine 5.7L 330 hp Black Scorpion 1999 - 2007 Mercruiser Marine 6.2L 320 hp MX MPI 2001 - 2007 Mercruiser Marine 6.2L 320 hp MX MPI Horizon 2002 - 2007 Mercruiser Marine 6.2L 340 hp MX Black Scorpion 2002 - 2007 Mercruiser Marine 6.2L 360 hp Scorpion 1998 - 1998 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 300 hp LX EFI 1997 - 1997 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 310 hp EFI 1997 - 1997 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 310 hp MPI 1998 - 2000 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 330 hp LX MPI 1996 - 1997 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 340 hp MPI 1997 - 1997 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 340 hp MPI BlueWater 1996 - 1996 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 350 hp EFI BlueWater 1995 - 1995 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 380 hp Magnum MPI Horizon 1998 - 2000 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 385 hp Magnum EFI 1994 - 1995 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 385 hp Magnum MPI 1998 - 2000 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 395 hp Magnum EFI Tournament Ski 1994 - 1995 Mercruiser Marine 7.4L 395 hp Magnum MPI Ski 1996 - 1996 Mercruiser Marine 8.2L 400 hp MPI BlueWater 1996 - 1996 Mercruiser Marine 8.2L 415 hp Magnum EFI 1994 - 1997 OMC Marine 3.0L 115 hp Cobra 1990 - 1993 OMC Marine 3.0L 120 hp Cobra 1989 - 1989 OMC Marine 3.0L 120 hp Cobra 1994 - 1994 OMC Marine 3.0L 130 hp 1986 - 1986 OMC Marine 3.0L 130 hp Cobra 1986 - 1988 OMC Marine 3.0L 135 hp Cobra 1995 - 1995 OMC Marine 3.0L 135 hp GS 1996 - 1998 OMC Marine 3.0L 140 hp 1980 - 1985 OMC Marine 4.3L 160 hp GL 1996 - 1996 OMC Marine 4.3L 175 hp 1986 - 1986 OMC Marine 4.3L 175 hp HO Cobra 1990 - 1990 OMC Marine 4.3L 180 hp Gi 1996 - 1996 OMC Marine 4.3L 180 hp HO Cobra 1991 - 1991 OMC Marine 4.3L 180 hp HO Cobra 1993 - 1993 OMC Marine 4.3L 185 hp GS 1996 - 1996 OMC Marine 4.3L 190 hp GL 1997 - 1998 OMC Marine 4.3L 205 hp Cobra 1986 - 1988 OMC Marine 4.3L 205 hp Gi 1997 - 1998 OMC Marine 4.3L 205 hp GS 1997 - 1998 OMC Marine 4.3L 262 King Cobra 1989 - 1989 OMC Marine 5.7L 250 hp Gi 1996 - 1997 OMC Marine 5.7L 280 hp GSi 1997 - 1998 OMC Marine 7.4L 310 hp Gi 1998 - 1998 OMC Marine 7.4L 330 hp EFI King Cobra 1995 - 1995 OMC Marine 7.4L 330 hp Gi 1996 - 1997 OMC Marine 7.4L 385 hp GSi 1998 - 1998 OMC Marine 8.2L 415 hp GSi 1998 - 1998 Volvo Penta Marine 3.0L 120 hp GL 1994 - 1995 Volvo Penta Marine 3.0L 135 hp GL 2002 - 2008 Volvo Penta Marine 3.0L 135 hp GS 1994 - 2001 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 160 hp GL 1994 - 1996 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 180 hp Gi 1995 - 1996 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 185 hp GS 1994 - 1996 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 190 hp GL 1997 - 2008 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 205 hp Gi 1997 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 205 hp GS 1997 - 1999 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 215 hp GS 1997 - 1997 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 220 hp Gi 2001 - 2001 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 225 hp GXi 2002 - 2008 Volvo Penta Marine 4.3L 225 hp OSi 2003 - 2007 Volvo Penta Marine 5.0L 220 hp GL 1998 - 2007 Volvo Penta Marine 5.0L 250 hp Gi 1998 - 2001 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 225 hp GLi 1997 - 1997 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 250 hp Gi 1994 - 1997 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 255 hp Gi 1994 - 1994 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 280 hp Gi 2001 - 2007 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 280 hp GiI 2003 - 2007 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 280 hp GSi 1997 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 280 hp OSi 2003 - 2007 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 315 hp GSi 2001 - 2001 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 320 hp GXi 2002 - 2008 Volvo Penta Marine 5.7L 320 hp GXiI 2003 - 2007 Volvo Penta Marine 7.4L 310 hp Gi 1998 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 7.4L 330 hp Gi 1995 - 1997 Volvo Penta Marine 7.4L 340 hp Gi 1995 - 1996 Volvo Penta Marine 7.4L 385 hp DPX 385 1997 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 7.4L 385 hp GSi 1995 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 8.2L 415 hp DPX 415 1997 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 8.2L 415 hp GSi 1997 - 2000 Volvo Penta Marine 8.2L 475 hp DPX 500 1999 - 2001 Volvo Penta Marine 8.2L 505 hp DPX 525 1999 - 1999 Volvo Penta Marine 8.8L 560 hp DPX 600 1999 - 2001 |
cross it to Volvo penta part number give me a minute I will see
number 14 in link http://www.volvopentastore.com/Ignit...view_id.783347 |
D1965A is the AC Delco number for the marine EST, and has the correct timing curve. I run one with the AC Delco D503A coil - the one w/o mounting bracket.
And it will last a while, I've got 4 years so far... BUP is right, all the aftermarket are crap, I've returned some that had no curve built in at all. Basically a 4 pin module in a 8 pin EST case. |
BTW, SB - you should have emailed me. OR archive some of this stuff. You posted info 5+ years back that lead me to chose the EST for my carbed motor when I rebuilt.:lolhit:

BTW Appollard - I'm getting old. I have archived the world 4 times over. The Internet about 10 times over. Many computers and hardrives later, I expect some other people to take up the slack. LOL !!!!!! Again, I have nothing on 3.0's - Why would I ? Ha ! |
post 31 SB -
you are good to go with the delco number for that app. I have it crossed to 6 others as well the Volvo part number. Not sure what NAPA has. Have no idea what they use or did not cross. NAPA keep in mind they do sell Sierra parts as well. |
BTW#1000 -
I posted this thread to sit back and have the answers given to me, like most all other people do. I ended up having to find my own info. Mutherfker ! He,he,he,he,he |
so I offered no help jeepers cut me some slack. you are still mad at me because I said this 3.0 4 banger was in your boat. You know I have to mess with you. Darn Northeasterner

BUP and Appollard, thanks for confirming what I needed. And for that, I'll leave you with a thank you gift. http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...1906_xlogo.jpg |
