What's out there for 50k

Looking for some input here. I sold my 283 checkmate and I am in the market for a 32-35ft. I mostly boat on inland lakes in upstate ny and a couple times a year on Lake Ontario or Erie. I want something that my wife and 4 yr old can overnight in a few times a year, my wife would really like something that handles rough water well so she enjoys poker runs with me. I would like something that does around 80. I am not too interested in a Baja they just don't do it for me. I have looked an older 33 powerplay the cabin was too low and cockpit area was too small. The 35 fountains are nice but cabin would not work for 3 of us. I have been thinking of 32AT but can't find one. This 34 sutphen www.lagovistamarine.com I really like and I'm thinking about making a road trip to check it out. What do you all think?h

endeavor1 09-03-2015 08:53 PM

80 mph, full cabin, 50k.... Think that's gonna be tough for something that's not ragged out and in need of serious love.

Fwiw, I'd start looking at formulas if I was u

SPITFIRE 09-03-2015 09:51 PM

The Sutphen is a great boat. Certainly take care of your rough water requirement. A little bare bones as an overnighter. But classic and for those who know, you have a well respected boat history there.

It's a touch more but there is that White, blue, and yellow Sonic in the Classifieds if it hasn't sold yet.

Not quite 80mph but has everything else he is looking for.

It is a slightly tall task at 50k.

Greatguy66 09-04-2015 06:40 AM

:faint2:0 I've been out there closer to $100k and 90% of them have to be checked out real good!Good luck!

Take a look at a Cigarette Bullet, nice cabin for overnighting, great in rough water.. Only draw back is the cockpit is a little small. Worth a look though.

wfo1 09-04-2015 08:03 AM

You can get a nice Scarab 33 avs for around that number. They would fit the bill pretty well. A bullet is going to take big power to get around 80, so is the 35 sonic for that matter. The sonic is hard to beat for overnighting though.

Never been in one but isn't the cabin on par with a fountain size wise?

Depends on the fountain. A 33 also has the swim in the LOA, compared with my 32 length of the cabin seems about the same but the 33 feels bigger.

Higher and wider. As just about anything in that size range engine room is tight. The 33 would be a good one to look at.

I was always a fan of the 33 AVS just never been in the cabin area.

http://www.grandsportcenter.com/pop-...ive-thunder-31....... just add some hp

Jay Gadsby 09-04-2015 10:12 AM

There are a couple Fastech 353s around that price range. Wont be an 80mph boat, but about 70 I would think with twin 496s. I am leaning towards a 353 for my family and overnighting purposes.

Don't think you can go wrong with a 353 fastech. It won't be the fastest hull on the water, but has a lot of really nice creature features for overnighting.

That was our thinking with the Sonic when we got it. There is always someone faster so get a great all around boat. Formula makes a great product with very nice fit and finish.

Not sure I would go as low as 50k, but I'll entertain all offers!

Sick Stinger 09-04-2015 05:09 PM

I understand 50 is the budget but have a lead on a boat 60 buys it 36 Apache with speedy runs 92 clean

nice boat. seems to meet most of the OP specs. except the speed, but looks like one of the best boats on the market in the $50's

articfriends 09-04-2015 10:38 PM

Scarab AVS 33 as mentioned IF the cabin will cut it for you. I just bought a clean 1999 w 143 hrs for close to 50,000, runs 80 ish with hp 500 efis. Trailerable, can still get it in inland lake launches. Cockpit is slightly smaller than my 272, cabin is 50% bigger, has same size bed but much more storage and longer couches a kid could sleep on, still kinda tight dpends on your tolerance level. I hear they run high 70s with 502 mags even, Im expecting 82 or so when I test some 30 pitch props Sunday, have saw 78 on gps on rev limiter w 28's, fwiw, Smitty

Here are a couple 33 avs cabin pics (not mine but exactly the same)

ttuton 09-05-2015 07:38 AM

31 Sonic! Sleeps 4, has AC, runs 78, and does very well in rough water. Just closer to $60k.

The 32' Velocity has good size cockpit, deep freeboard, usable cudy, easily covers the 80 requirement and should be close to 50k..

innerrage 09-06-2015 08:48 PM

thiers a 34 sutphen in the new haven ct on craigs list in Cromwell ct for 38,000 look real nice check it out

Donziben 09-06-2015 09:11 PM

I would consider a Donzi 33ZX. The newer ones will be more than 50k, but you should be able to find a '99-'01, twin step in that range. 502mags will get you 70-75, 500's will get you 80mph. The boat is a big boat for its length, 9'3" wide, big cabin with all the amenities, they are nice boats for the $. We owned a '99 w/502's for 3yrs and loved it.

Canuck B Crazy 09-07-2015 12:51 PM

The Donzi 33ZX is a good option. Like the Cigarette Bullet recommendation as well. Id also look at a Cigarette Café, something like this http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...t1-o63192.html we could also go a little above the budget, something asking $70k, remember these are asking prices, could offer closer to the budget and get it.

AE Stream 09-07-2015 06:19 PM

Thanks for all of the responses so far. I have added a few more boats to look at.

The 38 fountain, does that have the same helm as the 35? I found the steering wheel on the 35 to be very low.

I know you said no Bajas but factory 900's and #6's would make for sweet dreams while snoozing in the cramped cabin!

cheech 09-08-2015 10:50 PM

Seems like a decent deal just to part out.

The Bullet needs 575 HP a side to see 82 MPH. Great in the rough and nice overnight cabin.

Sounds like a lot of boat for the money.

frickstyle 09-13-2015 01:59 PM

^^^ Harvey's boat is sweet (from pictures that I have seen on here). That's a hell of a nice boat for $55K, waaaay underpriced from what he has into it I bet.

Drew555 09-13-2015 02:09 PM

How about a 40 hustler with trips. Very clean. He wants around 50 ish
