Nice shot but more importantly how did it run. I see the must have took some video with the camera in the front sponson?

Nastybug 09-10-2015 02:17 PM

Like the look so much better. Probably easier to deal with too.

triple 300s 09-10-2015 02:22 PM

I like the new look 100x better as well. Definately insterested in before and after performance info.

ReplayXD Mini, is a great source for information that is hard to obtain, I am a dealer for the camera, and they are a very cost effective tool!

.

I like the white motors!

curious if the 36" props were tested and if the max revs was hit.

Pete B 09-11-2015 06:45 AM

they ran out of Propellor! but boat runs strong!

pstorti 09-11-2015 07:20 AM

All anyone wants to know is who fast it goes, why the secrecy???? And Pete the info about running out of prop is useless unless we know the pitch, but nice pics!

Lake rat Skater 09-11-2015 09:18 AM

The speed on the water report said it ran 103 (in Florida heat) with 34 pitch props on the limiters. I think they were bravo style props as well so I would think some cleavers and break in time would yield better numbers.

ktron 09-11-2015 09:34 AM

I think it had 32's on it. Should run 110 from what I was told with the right props. Big boat!

TBAG 09-11-2015 10:26 AM

Nice, what'd it run before with the trips?

They said it ran the same with the trips. 103mph in the florida heat just before the motor swap. There was some discussion about it should have run more like 115mph and I think it may have been close up north with cooler temps and less humidity. Point being it should run faster than the trips when its done I would think. Also if they get 110mph out of it down in Fla what will it run when it gets to a more friendly performance environment. Should be interesting. The SPEED article said it ran up on the rev limiters real hard with 32 Bravos so it may take a set of 36s when all is said and done. They also said it weighed in at 6500 pounds for testing. I messaged Grant and he confirmed the weight. Lotta boat. Looks like an awesome ride. Congrats to them.

Double Rigged 09-11-2015 02:48 PM

I have heard boat ran again today and same results thus far. I personally think those guys know their stuff and the set up was pretty close to start with regarding engine hieght, toe etc. Props are the only variable.
Keep in mind 400hp only happens at 7000rpm. So run more pitch if on the limiters and go to far they wont have the HP to spin them either. Seems like it may be a tight window to get it right.
I agree with Steve big boat but 800hp should produce more. That is if it is 800hp???? Who knows???
Guess we will know more when Mercury works on Steve's Skater next week.

Pete B 09-11-2015 03:26 PM

Grant is looking at the data he has complied via video cameras (Replay XD mini's) mounted at various angles to see whats going on behind the boat, in the tunnel, etc. any adjustments whether minor or major will be noted, being the first Skater with the set up. I can say the boat rides nice!

Would be cool to see the videos of different performance tests on this Skater and to also see the clarity of the Replay XD mini recording device

The performance tests arent a real test for the cameras, although they are mounted sometimes underwater which they work fine. but this is what they are capable of! Camera was mounted on aft step on Hughes 500 be sure to watch it in HD..

LAriverratt 09-12-2015 08:41 AM

They running merc props? Dewald would be the guys to call imo!

Zero Patience 09-12-2015 08:42 AM

With the trips, and one quits, it still runs 50-55 mph. With the 400s and one quits, it goes 7 mph. I have spent a few hours at the 7 mph pace. I prefer the trips. But it is a beautiful boat rigged by an excellent facility.

They won't be spending much if any time on one engine.

Double Rigged 09-12-2015 06:43 PM

Jury still out on that one. Cats eat outboard lower units like candy. Time will tell. If you run your boat hard everything breaks!

With the top speed at 103mph the slip works out to be 17%. Ran on the limiters real hard according to Speed on the Water which I think are at 7200 rpm. Operating range is from 6400 to 7000 rpm I think. Using all the other info 32 pitch, Ratio 1.75 comes out to 17. At 105 it comes down to 16%. I think it should be able to run more efficient than that but time and end results will tell.

OK somebody lend this guy a pair of 36's so we can see what it can really do!

CLA 09-13-2015 04:04 PM

Very nice. I think the speed numbers seem realistic.

Good job guys.

That's a beautiful boat with triples or twins.
I spoke with the previous owner a few months ago he said it ran 117mph, out in AZ, with the triple Merc 300X's that had phase 2 DBR mods. FWIW.....
I'd think it would run closer to 110 with the 400's, but what do I know...

Smarty 09-14-2015 05:03 PM

That does look sharp, I like everything about the boat, size not too small not too big, nice interior, perfect power package, reliability, speed, and it's a Skater....I am envious...dial it in....

hogie roll 09-14-2015 09:29 PM

I just calculated that the new 7 marine 627 has a slightly better power to weight ratio than the 400r. Anyone going to try them on a cat?
