XZ gears in a 38 TS TopGun ??

Guys
Blew an XR at the end of the season. Now the fun starts. I don't plan on using XR gears again. Would the XZ set up be heavy enough for a Cigarette?? I am running stock 525's with -2 sports master lowers. I will be adding a spacer being it is a bear to get on plane with six people in the boat. Also, I boat LOTO 99% of the time and it can get rough...:D

Thanks

I'm tossing around the same idea when we are ready to replace xr gears...the helical cut gears wear better but are they beefy enough? We are only running twin 500 efi's.

THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION!

The XR teeth are beefier

vs

The X gears have more surface area

Exactly!!! Only reason I am hesitant to change is we have gotten a lot of hours on xr's...300 and counting with at least 50 hours to go per our last inspection.

screw the xr and put x gears in it.

Tell us why?

Also, I dont think the new "X" gears have tick floors like old ones which makes them weaker than old "X" gears... Or are they?

I am thinking about the B-Max set up. The gears look like they came out of a one ton truck. With my stock power, they would (should) have a long and happy life.....Or, if I ever wanted to boost the HP, they could handle it. The price of them, versus the X setup, will make the ole sphincter draw up though..:faint2:

When my buddy blew a Bravo Mr Gadgets recommended rebuilding it with X gears over XR. He said the newer XR gears weren't holding up as well as the X gears. He was running a procharged 502 with a little over 700hp.

New x gears are thick floor. Stronger than old. The xr gears wear faster then break a tooth. How many people do you hear breaking XZ drives?
