Skeg Performance
1 Attachment(s)
Lost some of the trailing edge of the skeg. Does the trailing edge effect performance? Everything feels ok, even while turning.
I swear I picked up up about 1/2 mph!!!! LOL j/k |
OUCH!!!
I'm not an engineer so don't take this as gospel.- my neighbor ripped almost the entire skeg off on his boat a number of years ago- never missed beat. Of course it isn't anywhere a performance boat. But he pulls the kids around on tubes, ski's etc. It would seem that the bulk of the skeg is still there and it shouldn't impact steering/performance significantly. However, with that said - the engineers that designed the lower end probably know something we don't. Did you hit something or did it just break off.?? |
Scrapped the concrete backing off the trailer. Ramp had a high spot and water level had dropped a foot. I don't use that ramp anymore!!!

This happened on our old 23' Powerquest with 454MPI. Performance and handling were never affected, although it was just a 60MPH boat on its best day. I would smooth out the skeg and run it. If the performance is not there compared to before, buy a lower case, simple enough.

I would filing like how the new Volvo penta's shape their skegs for the aft side of it. I had a Bravo III / skeg that I played around with on a Cobalt and shaped it like the Volvo's and I swear the boat ran & handled better.

Lost 3/4 of a skeg on an Alfalfa :helmet:, small lightweight boat. Was 2mph slower when a new Alfalfa finally made it's way back on the boat.

Less skeg = more mph !:drink:
