Skeg Performance

OUCH!!!
I'm not an engineer so don't take this as gospel.- my neighbor ripped almost the entire skeg off on his boat a number of years ago- never missed beat. Of course it isn't anywhere a performance boat. But he pulls the kids around on tubes, ski's etc.
It would seem that the bulk of the skeg is still there and it shouldn't impact steering/performance significantly. However, with that said - the engineers that designed the lower end probably know something we don't.
Did you hit something or did it just break off.??

This happened on our old 23' Powerquest with 454MPI. Performance and handling were never affected, although it was just a 60MPH boat on its best day. I would smooth out the skeg and run it. If the performance is not there compared to before, buy a lower case, simple enough.

Lost 3/4 of a skeg on an Alfalfa , small lightweight boat. Was 2mph slower when a new Alfalfa finally made it's way back on the boat.

Less skeg = more mph !
