Mr_Velocity,

I understand that certain models had some stringer issues. Basically, the stringers were not continuous but rather they joined at a mid station bulkhead. This lead to compromised longitudinal strength and stiffness. I am also aware that there were a few that broke all but in half at that joint...I witnessed one such mishap and was shown pictures of another. There are more that can be found from old posts on this board.

My question for gdfatha to ask of Steve during the tour was to inquire about what has been done about this and which model years were affected.

I was interested because an aquaintance of mine was seriously looking at one.

The stringers on my 41 are not continuous in the fact that they change at the bulkheads. Haven't broken stringers but I have pulled one of the bulkheads off the side of the boat. The joint to the stringers and hull bottom are fine. I believe that it was from a violent stuff. Steve was very good about it, I could have sent the boat back to him to be fixed, no charge. Instead I had my glass guy do the repair, Steve sent up the S-glass and new carpet no charge. That was a few years ago, no problems since.

I too was worried about the layout of the stringers, I cut inspection holes in areas just so I could keep an eye on things. Other than the bulk head everything is perfect, not even a stress crack anywhere on the hull. Maybe some of the smaller boats had problems.

You are correct, the cases I mentioned were with their smaller models, particularly the 26, later redesigned into the 280.

I have heard of that problem also, never had it with my 26 it has taken a beating many a time on lake superior. Espicallly last nite my back still hurts Never a problem wtih the hull cant say the same for my some of the other stuff that came loose in the cockpit.
