Sunglasses for high speeds
What are you all using for sunglasses at higher speeds? I've tried a few different types of Oakley's, but haven't found anything I really like so far, so I figured I would see if anyone has any they really like that won't slide around and are easy to see out of. Trying to avoid the goggle route.
Thanks |
Tried a few pair also. I like Maui Jims. Can't remember the model, but the lenses are curved a tad....stay put really well and light weight.
|
I have an old pair of vaurnets. The ones with the pointed outside top edge and low rounded bottoms. they're actually coming back I've had them so long. The bottom of the frame touches your cheek and with a strap on back keeps the wind out. Drove my checkmate with very little wind protection from the windshield at 80 and my eyes never teared.

Nemesis safety glasses. I buy them by the 10 pack and put them on board so when a pair flys of my head into the water or a guest takes a pair home no big loss. You can get them indifferent tint colors or clear

Wileyx.com
I have the type with foam inserts. Work great. |
oakley flak 2.0s work great on boat, and motorcycles.

+1 on the Wiley's. As a 30 year veteran of the optical industry, I suggest polarized lenses on a wrap frame and foam insert. The Wiley's also come with an adjustable strap so that if you look back at high speed they don't fly off. Also great for those of you that ride motorcycles..

Picked up a pair of Oakley Racing Jackets for $50 on sale...they are awesome. |
Check out Ocean Waves. I've worn them for years. Their lens coating is between layers so you don't have to worry about scratches. A little on the high end for price by great quality and many styles.

Check out your local motorcycle shop. I have bought a few pairs cost around $20.00 for a pair. Work great and if they go overboard no big deal. I have them with and without foam.
|
Oakley fuel cell.
I like that they are large to not allow air to get underneath but don't feel as if they will blow off when looking over either corner at speed. Polarized is a must regardless |
There is not a perfect pair that will work for everyone. Everyone's head is shaped different. That being said, I have several different styles of Oakley's and most work great.
|
Oakley monster dogs work great.they have a curve in the frame that works good .
|
Maui Jim with the Metal flex frames, they really hug your head tight.

These type of glasses work great...http://www.wileyx.com/images/items/large_71.jpg

My current and previous boats had little wind protection. I wear these when I am running, then just put my regular sunglasses on when I stop. You can get them with tinted lenses and the clear is good for night use. Plus they are cheap enough to carry a few spares.

I wear a Pair of Oakley Metal frames with prescription lenses. They are curved to keep the wind off my eyes and give great protection from the sun. They also fit tight to my head and stay put.
|
The cheap option that you can afford to lose is the tinted frameless safety glasses you can buy at any big box store. They stick tight to your face with no eye watering. I used to carry extras in my cat for the passengers. Wear them on my bike all the time as well. When you get to where you are going break out the cool Oakleys.

I use the Oakley split jacket with the wind gasket - these are awesome and I've had the same pair for about 5 years now.

I like the idea of cheep sunglasses. Lost way too many pairs of good ones over the years.
On a more serious note, if you think your eyes are cheap, buy cheap sunglasses. If not, buy the good (polarized) stuff. Just don't ever look aft at speed. :) |
Seaspecs Classic Polarized $50.00 or 3 for $100 @ seaspecs.com
I used them for my 80MPH Seadoo and they work great. Can't see very well if your eyelashes are on your eyeball. They are actually surfing sun glasses but are aerodynamic and have a strap. |
Maui Jim's and Rayban P's for me too. Once you try a set of Maui's you will never be able to wear cheap sunglasses again. I prefer glass lenses over polycarbonate lenses. They don't scratch as easy.
|
I have Oakley XX metal and SquarD Polarized Oakleys at $400.00 each. The Seaspecs are polarized and I cant tell the difference in the lenses.

this- my company buys these a 100 at a time, love them for the boat, they usally even come with a neck string to save them if they do fly off. I also keep some clear ones in the boat for night. |

I don't like goggles. I looked and found similar to those 80's sunglasses with the leather on the sides. I used to wear them skiing. Fendi makes them fairly fashionable and they are functional. http://images.glareeyewear.co.uk/ima...5-99527200.jpg

neck strap , tighten up running boat , same when riding my bikes, around pull them tight and roll . wind turbulance no factor .. use on any of youre favorite glasses
|
Costa Del Mar hands down are the best boating sunglass IMO. I've worn them for many years with a neoprene strap for security. Some models have clip on side pcs. to keep the wind out but the current pair I have wrap around nice and are awesome. Stylish too.
|
The motorcycle market offerings has the best choices and I am NOT talking about googles strapped to your head.
|
FWIW
i am a dealer for these. The bass boat guys and bikers like these when its cold out. Let me know if anything works here for whomever. Could be a cool idea for an sport boater. Plus they have other eye wear stuff that works as well. They are in my backyard so pricing is going to be the same. http://www.savephace.com/ watch the video some cool masks |
Revo with glass lenses.
