Like Top Banana posted. The real offshore "World Champions" raced around the country and around the world in all conditions. Since then the sport has become diluted with multiple sanctioning bodies who each hold their own raced under different rules with closed courses for the spectators and sponsors. The true offshore classes have been replaced with "P" classes which were started on the divisional level to get new racers into the sport. They have now taken over. Not to say that it isn't good racing but not true offshore racing with bracketed speeds and GPS's determining who won or lost.
It is cool to see a few boats from Europe coming over here to race in Key West. |

What kool aid? |
World champions at 1 time maybe. But like to OP said.. When is the last time they were actually world Champs. I have not seen too many world Champ Cigs anywhere. Lots of fountains still winning the races. Why does the Cig dealership race mystics or mti or whatever they race??? Because.. I don't know. The cig is a v bottom.. They should be racing V bottom cigs in my humble opinion.
