Leaning towards a 43 ZR as my next HP boat. The 38ZX is nice and roomy but I've came to the conclusion that I don't need to stand up down below as much as I thought. I love the way the ZRs look fit and finish, not big on trips but after dealing with twins what's one more. The only other boat at this time I would consider would be a 42 Lighting. I know there's a big difference price wise, just wondering what else I may be missing. 525s with bravos on both boats nothing more.
How will ride quality be in Lake Erie slop, top end, cruising, and maneuvering around the docks. I think I already know the answer figured I'd ask around here.

I think what you will find is that 43zr's are hard to find and might be priced accordingly based on availability.

The 42 Fountain with 525's will top out in low-mid 80's... both boats will ride great in the conditions you describe. The Donzi will most likely handle better around the docks because the back two motors will be spaced further apart than on the Fountain which will be staggered. Trips get a bad rap, no question they're more expensive than 2 but rarely does something go on all three at the same time. Take care of them and they will take care of you. I'm biased towards the Fountain, but either of these two would be a great choice.

I do realize the 42 has twin staggards which I like. Just been real impressed with my current Donzi.

Trust me I've thought about it, except I'm gonna be looking for a loop boat soon. It's been a dream of mine and my dad is really interested in doing it so I want to do it sooner then later. I'll do the hairy parts like the Great Lakes and gulf with him but let him do some of the river stuff with a buddy. Then leave it in FL for the winter and back up in the spring.

Saw a 42 fountain with #6's and 1000's for 120. Might be perfect to buy and sell the power if you don't want and put 525's in. No bravo blues. It's for sale in loto but I can't find the link at the moment.
