I hope I get fired tommarow.
They are call for possible 20' sea's on lake Michigan , I want to seee it.
|
Why see it, when you can experience it. Just call phragle's mom.
|
BTW: I saw that (storm and expected wave heights) on the news out here. That is going to be nutz !
|
Is this anything like Sandy a few years ago......?
From Wikipedia......"The cold wave that merged with Hurricane Sandy at the end of October, 2012 brought strong winds and high waves across the Great Lakes. Lake Michigan recorded wave heights of 20 to 22 feet and wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph. The southern end of Lake Michigan experienced a lake level rise of 15 inches as the winds pushed water down the lake." RR |

Hard for me to imagine 20' fresh water waves. I have no trouble remembering what 60' waves looked and felt like in the North Sea.

Only reason I would want to get fired right now is to load up and drag the boat to Key West.....not so much to see waves.
|
I still think that side of Lake Michigan has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country during the summer anyway. Did Benton Harbor ever improve or is it still s dump? |
The witch is late...the Edmond Fitzgerald sunk in 35 footers on Superior, which by the way just had a big anniversary. Could very well be the most wicked lake on the planet.
Check this out...14ft and counting http://www.crh.noaa.gov/greatlakes/?c=map&l=lm&p=a and Grandhaven...pay attention the pier house on the left! http://www.earthcam.com/usa/michigan...m=lakemichigan |

Went out on a couple piers and wondered how much of a pounding they have to take . . . . guess that answers it  maybe its just me but i think it would be a lot of fun to be in that house at the end of the pier lol |
Lake Michigan can change fast.I was testing out there yesterday in a 40 Skater in 2 to 4 footers.

Big water is not uncommon on the three upper Great Lakes this time of year. With 50 mph winds predicted today I bet Lake Huron will be raging too.

those winds are coming across lower MI and right across our bay and THIS guy decides to go boating lol.
http://www.wtol.com/story/30501576/c...nttype=generic i can just about see the boat from my lot lol. Not sure exactly what he was thinking as it is widely known that this river pretty much drains in these conditions. To the point of actually bridging land between the mouth. Its almost tide like . . . . we are currently at -27 from datum where we are normally +30 or so. |

Hard to to get fired being self employed, I did my job missed the show. I have the good fortune of surviving big storms both on lake michigan and the pacific ocean. 60' waves on a 800' vessel is nothing compaired to a 30' wood Chiris Craft on lake michigan in 16-18' seas. I was 7 or 8 years of age. I asked gramps why he had not put on a kapock . "if we capsize its over".We hit the sea walls coming into grand haven.

prop? . . . . we have found no less then a half a dozen snowmobiles . . . and a scooter lol. We go out and mark obstacles on GPS, you can walk for miles where there is normally six or seven feet of water when it gets real bad. Check out the old turn of the century pilings, they are not marked but are on navigation charts which is why i preach knowing how to read charts over gps in unfamiliar waters. There are two sets, one in the river and one at the mouth. take note of the ones on the ends that are pushed over . . . . boaters that did not know how to use charts lol :D
