Unless you can afford to own it and rent it to others.

That is a fantasy that rarely works if a profit is your intention. The charter fantasy is used by brokers to sell boats but the internet has brought every boat in the world and its reviews to anyone's fingertips so now there is a glut of inventory with not nearly enough renters. The other thing that has hurt the industry is VRBO....why pay 100-200K a week for a yacht when you can rent a killer waterfront house/villa in the same region for 20-25K a week and then do water stuff at your leisure with locals on smaller boats. Remember the big yachts can't get you to remote beaches/shallow areas anyway so you are spending most of your day on a tender anyway.

So while Bill Gates might charter a huge 400 ft boat with a submarine for 2mm a week that is not the norm. Just the "relocation" expense of some of these yachts is cost prohibitive.

Here is a classic example:

100K euros a week for a 60+ year old turd. Honestly, nobody shells out that kind of coin for an old boat like this unless they are planning a remake of Gilligan's Island!

The boat is beautiful none the less! And 99% of us will never get close enough to even ogle a boat like that.

I was just on Rosatti's Global Express a couple weeks ago. I think its a 99, so a little older now, but new that is a 60 million dollar airplane. So needless to say he has all the toys!!! Here is a link to pic, Gino I think you need to get adopted!!!!!!

Put up some pics of the new black interior if you have some, it is one of the nicest aircraft interiors I have seen in awhile.

While I get your point....I would take the advise from the guy that can afford to do what he is doing then the guy on the website telling how it "really" is.

Well my brother in law is a 3rd generation yacht builder that has sold yachts to athletes, celebrities and CEO's of Fortune 100 companies. The CEO's usually have the "rent it so it pays for itself" fantasy on day one whereas the celebrities/athletes want their privacy until they get short on cash then their boats become charter available until they can unload it. I have seen dozens of his boats and heard plenty of stories over the last 10-15 years.

This boat and owner are in a totally different league than the guy with the 100 ft Cheoy Lee (Made in China boat) trying to charter it for 80K a week......
