Jafo: I've got a 96 vortec 350 for sale. Comes complete with its own 4x4 suburban LS. It's a little more money than the crate motors, but no installation is required.
BTW: Re: shocks on the Excursion; Rancho is bringing out 9 position shocks to replace the 5 position shocks. Right now they are making them as fast as they can. Pulled the boat over the weekend for the first time with the Excursion, and it does need them. Thanks for your advice.

It looks like a GM crate is the best way to go. I will probably spend the few hours it takes to tear down the old one just to see what failed. Being a SBC guy with my boats, it's always good info to find what the weak spots are! I have already discovered it will be at least the same amount of $ to rebuild the original as it is to buy a new one WITH warranty.
boot- 1050SC in a 1/2 ton 'burb? 
I'm on vacation up in Canada right now, but might take you up on some pricing!
dyno- not planning on sellin' the 'burb.... how about a boat?
chart- love my 'X'! - just shy of 20 mpg haulin ass to Canada! Can't beat that moving nearly 4 tons. Just figures a better shock comes out right after I put mine on this spring- oh well, they still greatly improved the ride!
