WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM THE mIAMI bOAT SHOW??

With the Miami boat show only days away I am wondering what I should expect. Have they put forth a hurculine effort to mske this new venue great or is it going to be a stop gap measure.
I have enjoyed this boat show year after year and I hope that this year dose not disappoint. In the most recent years we have seen a cut back in size of this event. The back lot use to be standing room only. Most recently we have had fewer displays and vendors.
I will be there this year and I look forward to seeing all there is along with visiting with friends..How do you think this event will be for 2016?? what should I expect?

This guy is connected ... follow him around. (Wait, he's not going to the show this year.)

We're continuing to update our annual Countdown to Miami series, so this link might be useful, http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...VudGRvd24iXQ==.

Depends on where you are staying? Only one water taxi pickup spot on SoBe. A few more near downtown. Any kind of car/bus traffic over Key Biscayne could become an adventure in time management.

Actually funny story about boat shows. Last year at the Palm Beach show they had dozens of motoryachts (mostly empty). My kids and their friends wanted to go (to eat at a restaurant they like next to the show), looking at boats was secondary. They spot the Never Say Never yacht (used in many music videos, Justin Bieber rented it once). So there was a young girl (25 yrs old) sitting on the back deck looking bored. So I asked if we could come aboard since this was the "Im on a boat" music video boat and the kids love the video. To our surprise she said sure, no problem and a bunch of pre-teen girls got to take all the selfies they wanted for about 10 minutes. Needless to say it was the best part of the day!

My brother in law had a contract to buy it, boat failed survey and seller had no interest in fixing anything so the deal fell apart. Boat has been for sale for years.

Boat is down to 4.5 million now! I think 45 gallons an hour at 13 knots seems a bit optimistic on a 122 ft boat.......maybe it has Duramaxs!

"Never Say Never” is a beautiful 122 Oceanfast that was built in Australia and is likely the most recognizable yacht in Miami; having been featured in numerous high profile events and publicity stunts. Most notably she was the back drop for the music video “I’m on a boat’ by Lonely Island and T-Pain and the marriage of music mogul Pharrel Williams. 'Never Say Never' has eye catching lines that exude Miami's modern and art deco architectural style and she bares the high end construction and sea keeping abilities synonyms with Oceanfast Yachts. She boats an elegant interior, incredible outdoor spaces and benefits from a knowledgeable and capable owner who afforded her with two extensive refits in 2004 and again in 2011. She has been continually upgraded and maintained to an extremely high level ever since her modifications were made. She features a Jacuzzi, four staterooms, gorgeous book matched burled wood accentuate her spacious rooms throughout and powerful MTUs that top her out at well over 32 kts. This kind of speed is a rarity to achieve with conventional drive shafts! Throttle back to 13 knots and 'Never Say Never' burns only 45 gallons an hour total; making her ideal for long range travel. This, coupled with a high cruising speed of 25 knots and an unbelievably shallow draft for her size make ’Never Say Never' one of the most versatile yachts in the market place. This yacht truly has it all and her current owner is aggressively looking to be replaced by you so he can attend to the finishing touches to his new Oceanfast. Simply imagine all the luxurious travels, exotic destinations and weekend getaways you, your friends and your family are sure to remember for a life time.

Interesting story but it's still too dear. There's another one in Phuket that's 10' longer (maybe that includes the platform) and 1990 build for only 2.7 million. You could spend a million on it and still be miles ahead! This one has been on the market for ages too.

I am very concerned about the Miami show this year. Of course there will need to be a shake down on the new venue but my main concern is getting to and from the show. The convention center was steps from all the hotels on SoBe and could not have been easier for those staying there. Now it is on a remote key with shuttle bus service and water taxi only. Very concerning. I can see hour long lines for the buses and then hour long waits in traffic on that bus. ONE road in and out, that's a problem.. The water taxis maybe the way to go because no traffic jams at least, but they may have long lines and they are slow.. The wait lines for the buses from one venue to another have been tremendous in the past and now that they are the only way to get there, it could be far worse. We will see. Once you get there, it will be great, never disappoints..

ERIC38 02-03-2016 01:50 PM

Coming down and it has been along time since we have gone to the show any special activities or fast boat events to take in doesn't OSO host a big party i know they used to do something on ocean drive

Grab a beer and make the best of it if there is a wait. Not going to let my self get stressed about lines or waits.

As you said it will be fun once in, so do your best to try and enjoy the wait.

Not any longer, but there is one now better. See my other post on this thread.

The list is the shortest I have ever seen for sterndrive power sportboats. I know a 28 Saber should be there but I think its the same 28 from 2 years ago. Hustler with 4 and one Checkmate, Cig whatever they bring with sterndrives. Have not seen what MTI or Skater is bringing. I do not remember the whole list but its not that many at all. Maybe some one else can fill the rest of the sportboats in.

For me, really can not get to excited about it when Yamaha Jet drive boats & Wellcraft Scarabs jet drive boats have more on display than all sterndrive sportboats combined.

jbraun2828 02-04-2016 06:05 AM

Bup, that 28 saber is a brand new boat with twin outboards.

rak rua 02-04-2016 07:16 AM

Maybe Fountain will show us their 'new' 29. It's still promoted on the homepage of their website for release at Fort Lauderdale. They've had a few more months to build it now!

Hard to display a large showing of a shrinking market

I think it is Glastron, Scarab jet boats and Wellcraft Scarab Center Console's, confusing isn't it?

^^^ correct about that and from REC holdings.

And thanks for the new Saber 28 info. Forget they have one with OB's.

A friend of mine in another state has a customer with I/O Pontoon. That customer wants to put a Viper V 10 engine package in it. He also owns a Dodge Viper. IMO he needs to buy a go fast sterndrive boat.

What if he has his pontoon for the enjoyment and pleasure of taking out many friends when boating?

might as well just say "phuket" and go for the extra 10ft

BUP 02-04-2016 12:05 PM

My point was many guys still like toys that go fast and some still have money to throw around no matter what. He can keep his pontoon boat and buy a go fast as well or least if I had the cash thats what I would do.

98% of the pontoon boats made and family rec boats can not handle a heavier engine package nor the torque nor the horsepower upgrades for a swap over. Most will not handle very well at high speeds. It is wise in 98 % of the pontoon market to leave it completely stock unless you want an ill handling unreliable project on your hands. just saying.

I get your point but some don't want two boats, some rather just get it done the best they can with one.

I get what you would do or what I would do but we can't speak for what others do and why they do it.

You got that right. What is up with this pontoon madness? Some are over $200,000 now. They aren't even technically boats. They're rafts!

It would be nice if Baja set up a display with Baja, Fountain, Donzi & Pro-Line all represented.
