I wpuld guess a fitting broke for the somewhere, seacock or gate valve, my $.02 opinion, 13 miles offshore sinking in 1200 foot of water.

I am not familar with the ocean off of Lauderdale, is there a reef or sandbar that far offshore in that area?

Am I the only one who finds it odd that it "struck ground" and then "sunk in 1,200 feet of water?" There must be one hell of an underwater cliff there!

Don't think it struck ground. The news reports claims a mechanical failure is what lead to taking on water.

So, this begs the question ? Sea Tow or Coast Guard ? Who's job is the rescue ? Especially this size boat/ship.
I read where Sea Tow was there, but not see anything about Coast Guard.

Anytime there is lives at risk it is Coast Guard.

As to who gets the boat...neither. it even states it is unrecoverable and will stay at the bottom.

Video has CG interview saying they did the rescue and took survivors to CG station in Miami. Seatow there for ship rescue/salvage.
