Years ago there was a guy, Jay13, that wanted an Apache. Eventually he found a used one and he ran it once or twice, had some engine issue and that was it. The boat has not seen water in years.
Then he doesn't have high performance boating in his blood like some of us do. I have 100g in my 22' boat and driving it is the second funnest thing in life.

Or some rather boat at a more reasonable cost than their first born, a mortgage, and a loan from a friend to keep it going.

That's pretty funny, but it's true. I've seen plenty of people on the boating scene pull up in their new Bentley, get into their half million dollar boat, while everybody around them knows they're struggling to make the payments and keep the doors of their business open. A lot of people who own boats like our have a huge ego and feel the need to try and impress everyone around them, even when everybody knows it's all smoke and mirrors.

Now that I think about it, I probably personally know about a half dozen guys who have boats ranging anywhere from $100-$500k and are so stretched out financially that they are one blown engine or drive away from parking it for the summer.

I did not read this whole thread , just skimmed. But , at the end of 2012 I paid 3900 for a new xr upper. This past summer got a price of 5400 same source. same drive same crap parts. The answer is easy, Merc killed the io sales. Just my O.

Well I'm not going to park an Apache because of an "engine issue". I'd have that engine torn down the next day if need be.

Or maybe horsepower killed it. It made things expensive and less durable.

What's more important to "him"? You don't know. Old boy could be sitting on a TBM 900 in a hangar or paycheck to paycheck.

Interesting you define what's important
