Performance boat role call

Over the last couple years who has either bought the first boat, traded up, or knows someone that has.
Just like to know how our market is doing.
I did it twice in the last 3 years.

Nate5.0 03-14-2016 01:39 PM

Bought and sold.

Out of the game for the time being.

Sonic24 03-14-2016 02:42 PM

Traded up last Spring.
Upgraded over the Winter

Speedracer29 03-14-2016 03:19 PM

Went from a 21' Checkmate to a pontoon to a Power Play 185 to a 230 Stingray to a 24' center console to a 24' sport boat. And that's just in the last 5 years. I'm stuck with the Progression for a while now, though. Wife and I have an agreement- if I don't bring home any new boats she won't bring home any new puppies. Still trying to convince her that I sell a boat after I get a new one, and she should do the same with puppies.

Rdaglock 03-14-2016 04:13 PM

Ordered 3 new boats in the last 3 years.

- 2014 Yamaha 212x (twin engine jet boat, 60mph) - officially got the boating bug.
- 2015 Checkmate 2400 Long Deck with 300xs (75 mph)
- 2016 Hustler Talon 25, with Merc Racing 565 (102mph) - just picked up in December. Can't wait for spring.

Yeehaaaa!!!

I know the feeling, I went from a 29 outlaw to a 36 outlaw to a 42 tiger. Wife says if I get a 46 I'll be living in it :(

You guys are what these builders need!

NKissau 03-14-2016 06:12 PM

After years of riding with me a Buddy bought a 32 fountain, sunk a ton of money into it. Barely got to use the thing. Seemed he would fix something and the next time out something else happened. Had a new trailer built, new interior, covers, etc... He finally dumped the thing as he had enough. I sold mine last year too. Just not worth it to me anymore for how much we used it.

Riley0114 03-14-2016 07:07 PM

Bought my first 89' Webbcraft Velota 7M in June of 2014. Sold it and just picked up a 25 outlaw few weeks that I'm rigging. Oh and Im 19 and only wish my parents would help me pay for this terrible habit Ive got going on.

Want2gofast 03-14-2016 07:50 PM

Somewhat relevant to the question is what do you call a performance boat? My first Donzi 16 was a 1965 with a Holman and Moody engine in it. I ran it from 1976 until 2000. The kids down the block had a faster 1970 16" Donzi with a VolvoPenta AQ260 350 c.i. engine in it. They got enamored with scurfing and I bought their boat. I added a DuoDrive to the Volvo outdrive and ran it for 24 years.I then sold it back to them for the same cost I had purchased it for. My present drive is a modified 18" Donzi Testarosa with a 454 MerCruiser that gets me to 88 mph on the GPS. At age 77 it is enough. Performance is in the eyes of the captain.

RGPIII 03-15-2016 01:40 AM

Started with a 1989 four winns horizon 350, to a 2001 checkmate Convincor 220 350, to my current 2007 checkmate convincor 270 496 in the last 5 years

rak rua 03-15-2016 02:13 AM

Like many boat owners, my boat doesn't go out much. I've owned many different boats over the years, generally they got bigger and bigger and now I'm on the downsizing slope. Last one was a Sea Ray 410, and now a little smaller to a low maintenance, keep on a trailer, outboard powered Fountain. The next boat will probably be under 30' with a single stern drive or twin Verados.

Looking forward to shopping for my next boat but I'm concerned the one after that might be embarrassingly small!

Many of us get tired of the endless maintenance and the significant depreciation on boats but I have vowed, as long as I'm fit enough to operate a power boat, I will always own one and enjoy the days out, however few/many they will be.

RR

P.S. On reflection, I guess this is the 'anti-post' for your thread. Sorry.....

Questofpower 03-15-2016 05:56 AM

I have had three in the last five years 1999 24 FT Powerquest. A 2004 30 foot Powerquest sold last year, kind of still wish I had that boat, just bought a 2007 353 Fastech. Each one in my eyes took me along time to find. There just does not seem to be many nice used boats on the market that are priced according to what they are worth. While I am not worrying about where my next cup of ramen noddles is coming from. I certainly do not have the funds to purchase a new boat in this size range.

With the average cost of over 500k for a new 38+ size boat with modest power I can totally see buying a nice used boat for 100-150k and putting a little $$ in it to make it real nice. The depreciation on the new boats in the first 5-7 years is crazy.

Got Cigs 03-15-2016 07:16 AM

Same here...but I didn't even make it a few months. lol.

Sold my 288 Sunsation in August with the intention of buying a certain boat...deal fell thru, was absolutely zero on the used market I was interested in that I could afford....got frustrated....bought a Jeep with the intention of playing with that instead of boats for a couple years...first nice day, I had that longing feeling of loss in the pit of my stomach thinking of going a single summer without a rig....sold the jeep....boat shopping again :)

I'm a broke-dick though, looking at 10+ year old boats...but at least I'm moving up a couple years, and couple feet from where I was!
