Default What should a poker run BE ?

What should a poker run , be?
What makes for a great Poker Run ? Is it the location ? the food ? the parties? The guests ? the host? the Cause? The boats ? Just exactly what might itbe ? It seems to be like defining the perfect relationship, It Is just a certin combination of factors that come together exacty how, we are not sure. But when it is right it is right .. I think that the most important factor that should be there right from the start and all the way to the finish…ENTHUSIASM! . It seems that getting some poker runs going are a constant uo hill struggle. . Of late I have heard that some poker run will fall off the map and it is not that those events are not great it seems that enthusiasm is lacking…. Unless it comes on an app on your phone some people just can not be bothered . Having FUN is an active sport . gey excited and DO something . Run that poker run get out there and make make it happen this goes as much for the guests as the sponsors…..

The location and the water. Good planning, a decent turn out of like minded participants and an atmosphere of people enjoying the whole event and mixing with one another. These are not easy to plan and if the organisers think closely about what makes a good event they should be able to create a wonderful run.

I've been looking at doing poker runs but have a couple concerns/questions. The only advertised runs I find are for the big boys, I don't find anything for just the average boat ( maybe that's the norm or maybe I just don't know where to look), second what is the usual turnout for one? What will everyone else think of "my" boat, how welcoming are the people to new guys on the block.....I've been to car shows where the people were welcoming of just about everything and I've been to some that unless your ride was 100k+ you didn't get the time of day.

I think more people would turn out if these things were put out in the open a little more.....my opinion

It can be intimidating when you have a boat that can't run with the big boys, however I have found that they treat everyone the same whether you have a 50,000 dollar boat or a million dollar boat. It's a place where you both enjoy the same sport and that is what makes it fun to be a part of. I have friends on both ends of the spectrum.

I bet a lot of those big/high dollar poker run boat owners wish they had a normal boat some days!

I can see a market for the 'slower' boats in a Poker Run, i.e. those that will do between 30 and 50 mph. The original idea for Poker Runs was for high speed boats and the 'few' who had the money to run them. Alas the major runs have always concentrated on the bigger and faster boats as their owners have the time and funds to enjoy nights away and runs over two days. The question is would enough owners of less powerful boats pay a couple of hundred dollars each for a well run 'bespoke' event somewhere fun? If the answer is yes then a location needs to be sourced, a route planned and all of the right details organised. i think for a good event to work you need upwards of forty boats and crews, regardless of speeds and makes.

I wouldn't mind running at the back of the pack and fishing all the hats and glasses outta the water from the fast guys lol. In all seriousness though, I have no problem dropping a couple hundred bucks on a run plus hotel and food etc, even if I had to drive clear across the country.

A150 MPH boat is easy to pass when it's broken.

The upcoming Lake Cumberland poker run is open to everyone. Then there are "fun runs" like the annual Saginaw Bay Fun Run put together right here on OSO - http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...-interest.html Lots of smaller boats.

Like property Location, location and location. What boats doe s one attract, marinas and boat ramps, hotels if necessary, restaurants and then people to sort out card areas, safety and fuel if needed. I shall be interested to see how the Tampa Bay run in ten days time does....it looks good and the water offers some great boating.
