How long did it take you to dry out the boat after that ride? And how many fillings did you loose?

I live on the Chesapeake Bay which is thousands of square miles of water but most of it is shallow so it don't take much to stir things up. This is me coming home from the blue angles in my 19' boat. You have to build them tough to last around here. Mine happens to be build in 1972 and still around so it fits the bill.

There was one time. A lot of years back I was about in the same exact place when a rain squall / microburst came up the channel. It was like looking at the end of the world coming at you and being my boat ramp was on the other side of it running away was just going further away from home and into open water. Put the life jacket on and waited for it to come. Tunneled a couple waves just trying to keep it pointed into the wake (wake started coming from all angles after it started to bounce of the shoreline down both side of the channel). 20 minutes of pure hell but we came out of it wet but intact. I get back to the ramp and then home and as I pull up the wife looks a little overlay excited to see me. She tells me that the storm was all over the news. It flipped a water taxi in the Inner Harbor killing a bunch of people and when she couldn't get ahold of me (due to my wet phone) she called the coastguard. From that day on it was my true love. I've had sleeker and I have faster but there is none better for where I live. http://www.supernova19.com/ef37adc0.jpg |

In watching that video, I was cringing because I could feel the spines compressing. Need a traction table after that ride. But none the less bad a$$. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that an Apache is the boat that all others (except for maybe Cigarette's) aspire to be.:party-smiley-004:

I boat mostly in Long Island Sound, one of the best waters for boating IMO. Usually fun slop during the summer, however during the dog days of late July-early August it gets flat as a pancake at times. However it kicks up plenty when it feels like it, for instance when all the contestants turned around during last years's Don Aronow run. |
I'm guessing not much of this on the Great Lakes.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7308/1...4aea21ca_o.jpg That's the only "big water" I've personally been in on my boat, lol. Everyone leaving Harmon on Poker Run weekend at once when a rain storm blows in or at the end of the day. |

I got caught on the Chesapeake Bay once when a storm rolled in. They come in very fast there! I was able to barely outrun it back to the ramp but we were completely leaving the water and airing the prop out. And when I looked back at my buddies boat, all I would see is the full bottom. That was exciting.

Down here in Florida so long as your boating is done during the summer by 4 pm you should miss any bad weather, and I a talking about mid July until mid Oct.....the wet season. Otherwise it is often very calm with a gentle 2-4 ft of movement even 25 miles out. As ever it depends upon wind more than tide.

Then there is big water racing....bring back those days of glory.

[QUOTE=MonkeySea2;4420192]I actually got a ticket years ago
We do 98% of our boating on an inland lake -- in fact - back in the day - when we had 9 planets I swam across it a few times. I was stopped (with a brand new boat) and was asked to see the fire extinguisher, life preservers, and clean air spark arrestor - which we had 100%. I was then asked how long the boat was -- 18'. I was told that I needed to have a flare warning device -- which I didn't have -- heck I could yell to shore if anything like that happened. It seemed to me it was like a $40.00 fine. It doesn't have to make sense it's a regulation. 3pointstar. |
With so many classic car events now happening maybe it is time to organise a classic boat series with different categories to run together.

If someone puts one together and really works at promoting it for next winter, we have some members who are interested and would support it. |
Regional media coverage, web chatter, word of mouth, are all needed as is peer pressure. No event starts perfectly but given a good run if you are doing the event next year it will grow. get the word onto the web and into the media channels and away you go.

It's a heavy boat built by Allmand.with a rounded keel. It prefers rough water. Maybe not that bad but it don't like flat water at all. To be honest I don't think we got wet at all. The guy that took the picture said we would go down and disappear under the wave tops then she would climb right back up the next wave like in the picture and back down again.

How would the rounded keel help in the rough stuff? |

You're in big water when the US Navy does a hot-lap past your quiet cove in a 350'+ combat ship. Lol
