How would the rounded keel help in the rough stuff?

Mark IV 496 roller/stroker BBC, Volvo 280T transom shield (full trim) and a Volvo 270 outdrive with 1.56 gears. 63mph because she is such a heavy boat. The rounded keel just make reentry a lot softer. Doesn’t do much for getting on top of the water when its flat but you never get beat up by the boat in the rough. Most cases the faster you go the smoother it gets.

That is the reason I will never “raft up’ with any of my boats. It seems like there is not a weekend that goes by during the season that there’s not a video posted of the same thing happening. Then people file reports with DNR because a ship made a wave. Short of it being a tsunami and knocking down all the houses along the shoreline it’s called a wave and it happens all the time on the water. Even when and where you don’t expect it.

The 1st portion was pretty tame and then HOLY COW, that turned ugly. Too many dudes on the boat, and whats up with the guy waving the go pro on a stick all around?

I found a video I made about 9 years ago before the second make over of the boat. It's not the worst but it's about as rough as it could be and me still be able to hold the camera (real camera back then) and drive at the same time.

Excellent. we were soar the next day, but just from the constant jostling. There was wasnt a single "hard hit" felt thru the seat. But they are really good seats that werent cheap either,,,,, The containment is excellent too, not once did it remotely feel like we were going to get bounced out of the seats, up, down front back or sideways. Glassdave liked them and he has a lot of racing time so....

That is a great video! The big boats are cool but the little boats are a blast too! Thats why you can never have too many boats!

Even our little Lake St. Clair blows away any other lake in this country. When you can go out of sight of land in any direction that is true offshore boating to me. The only lakes comparable in size are not navigable: Okeechobee and Great Salt Lake. Weekdays are for cruises to Put-in-Bay or up the river to Lake Huron. Weekends are for partying on Muscamoot Bay and capping the day with a burger and fries at Brown's Bar. :)

I remember that year. I was on White Lake with a group of small Donzis waiting for the big boats to come in for the card stop. Some of us ventured out into Lake Michigan into 6 footers there by shore. Only two of us planed out. We quickly went back onto White Lake. Many of the big boats stayed in the harbor and some turned back. The Baja PokerFace ran though. The pics I took are on film. Remember film? lol

SLOWOUTBOARD 03-26-2016 12:06 PM

ROF...been there done that. The east wind on LIS is absolutely brutal. One year a buddy of mine launched out of Stratford in his 21' Four Winns with the intent of meeting us in the Norwalk Islands. Well once he got out there were steep 6's rolling down to the western end, he couldn't turn around. We took the Nordic out to meet him not really knowing how bad the Sound was kicked up, made it past the Cockenoe lighthouse and started to take waves over the bow. We just turned around and said f-it, he aint coming down. No sooner were we about to turn we see this dinky little boat surfing a wave towards us...the dude got out there and had to surf the crest of the wave all the way down or he'd have gotten swamped, he and his passenger where scared white. We all went back to the Norwalk docks and I took him home in the truck, he came down the next day to drive the boat back after the Sound felt like behaving.

1989mach1 03-26-2016 02:50 PM

It is always fun when ones and twos go to fives to six's in the matter of one beer. That makes for an interesting ride back

1989mach1 03-26-2016 02:59 PM

Or when you are sitting on the top of a wave between kelleys and marblehead with the bow and drive out of the water at the same time with no power till it drops in. The one and only time the bilge pump kicked on and didn't shut off till we got in to westbay inlet from taking on so much water. I think the grate lakes are by far the most unpredictable and headrest body's of water to boat. Just my opinion thow

Any body of water with enough fetch will be a handful with the right wind conditions.

You all know why offshore race boats that were only 20+ feet long all of a sudden went to 40+ footers?

This was Brandon Lee in his 36 skater at that poker run. He was in second place to all the card stops behind Jim Lee (no relation) in the 46 Freedom Skater.

We were floating just north of this picture during Boyne Thunder. We were a Marshall boat, Rob had it locked in, but there was also several boat wakes. Just before he came by a 34 PQ launched to the sky. They sat there for awhile before taking off again. A+ to Rob and Dave for holding that line!

I know they r good but has anyone else noticed that it is always the same 6 or so apache videos that get posted up. These are wave killers so lets see them kill some different waves for once.

Unfortunately they don't seem to get used like they used too. Razz is just a hull now, hope someone saves it but that's a lot of money to do right.
