Look for an late 80's Wellcraft Nova. Good start to get back into the game for "cheap"

Chaparral 235 XLC is a great family boat in that price range if you can find one in good shape. I had one for many years.

The original Nova 250's if you can find one in decent shape, can go thru some water.
