I do insure boats like the one that burned at a reasonable rate with the company that is as far as I know the only A RATED,LICENSED,AND ADMITTED company in the marine insurance industry.

I was paying $3500 in S. Florida for a 32 Sunsation yet I had a guy tell me he was paying closer to $2000 to insure a newer 43 Sunsation in the midwest! The insurance went crazy in S. Florida after 3 major storms in 15 months. Some policies started excluding windstorms (hurricanes) and still cost more than a full coverage policy pre-storm!
I think there was an OSO'r that got an older 36 NT with smaller power insured for $3500 in NY area after he took the Tres Martin class. I would suspect if you bought a new MTI/Skater with big power for 750K you would spend 25K+ to insure it.

Worst case scenario with 12 month navigation in Florida speeds from 130-160 would be about 3% of hull value and with speed 160-180 would be about 4$% of hull value. This program is with STATE NATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANY an A rated, domestic, licensed, and admitted carrier.(NOT LLOYDS OR SURPLUS LINES) and backed by your state insurance department guarantee fund..

Just my 2 cents, but even if he paid 20k a year he just got every penny worth when a cat with fresh power got totaled. When i did the repower on my Tiger, i made sure i had a fresh survey and then got an agreed value policy to reflect the upgrades... things happen and if youre going to skimp there, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when you get bitten.
