Well I'll probably take crap for this, but here is what I am doing. I hired a fabrication company to make me new mounts. I tested the wood with 6 test holes on each side drilling -- the wood is 100% fine. I am re-glassing the stringers and creating a steel or aluminum form to fit around the stringer and cover the top edge making a U-shape around it on each side for the stock mount location -- but it will extend 11" on either side of the mount and adding 3 thru bolts on either side of the mount. Doing this on both sides of the boat, obviously I should have done with sooner based on the thickness of the current stringers.

I did speak with Quality Marine out of Monroe and over the winter they are going to rip out the current stringers and install new. At the same time checking for any rot. They are also going to be back at my marina next week and while the engine is out make some more test drills in structure to see if anything is going on further back -- hopefully nothing. Timing was why I made the decision to wait until winter.

So in the end, I guess I made the decision not to miss as much summer as possible and deal with it later. With two kids and my current work schedule I know that I would NOT get this done in a timely manner on my own -- that's just reality for me right now -- coaching softball, t-ball and traveling for a variety of things.

It feels a little 1/2 ass, so I guess we will see how it goes.

Well, I threw a curve ball...I couldn't stand to 1/2 ass this with plates only...Everything doubled (or nearly doubled) in thickness, and I will be using plates to distribute the load.
