I'll be totally honest. We were a marshall boat scheduled to be appx. midway between Charlevioux and Elk Rapids. We were watching the weather Friday and early morning Saturday and never left the marina in Traverse City.

Looking forward to seeing the video of all the boats hammering it when leaving for the Poker Run.

You didn't miss much, I was a Marshall boat also, south of Northport and only saw 4 boats, apparently only 6 went as far as Elk Rapids.

You mean all the boats trying to turn around in the channel to head for the dock?

I can tell you first hand there was some deep holes. I ran Joe's boat and it was a blast to steer the boat while he throttled. Truly the one of the best on the sticks!!!! It was comical how the big cats, not anyone in particular, cough, cough (Deal With It Skater) in our fast group were full of piss and vinegar on Lake Charlevoix and then cause a jam turning around in the channel. We were one of the last boats out into Lake Michigan, if not the last. We were both excited just to come up some boats as we found a good rhythm to run (cruised around 65mph), and he it was the 33 powerplay. Neither one of us said a word, just looked at each in amazement and chuckled! Frickin props to them boys!!! All I know is we made both card stops and were the first back to the lunch stop that did both stops. Guess it shows the how impressive a Mike Fiore creation and Joe Sgro stick man really is.
Here's a picture my wife took as we came back into Charlevoix, as we came off plane I checked my phone to see I had 20 missed calls and about 10 texts from her. Guess she was a little worried. LOL Can't wait to see what Pete got from the chopper. |

Weren't you in one similar last year and you where the only one out in the big stuff ? I think one of these huge water events needs to give you the Big Brass Balls Trophy. :Score-101010: check300 Last year Lake Erie Run taken by Sharkey http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...eckmate-03.jpg |

Man...there's some big machinery turning around in that stuff.
But it's only a lake.... |
We were waiting for them in Harbor Springs and heard they called it off. But, I had no idea they turned around that quickly!

The amount of boats turning around is a direct indication of the level of intelligence, competence, and responsible boaters who attend this event. These are not "beat-your-chest" boaters here. They have bad-ass equipment that does have the ability to handle the exact conditions presented on Saturday.
They have nothing to prove to anyone and are not willing to risk their crews, their equipment, or the reputation/safety record of the BT event. I have nothing but praise for the organizers and the entire Boyne community for the event that they put forth. Our NY crew on the MTI were completely impressed and almost overwhelmed with what this event offers- the ability for us to participate in giving back to an amazing and appreciative charitable cause. We must thank all of Boyne for helping remind us that the greatest gifts are given, not received. We can't wait to bring our families next year to share this joy with them. Plans are already in place to up our game at the street show, defend our stereo wars title by going WAYYYY over-the-top, and then get to run the full poker run coarse under safer conditions with the rest of some awesome boats overshadowed only by the quality of people and crews that truly make this event so much more than just boating. With sincere gratitude, the CUZ I CAN MTI crew: Ken, Kelly, Mike and Nolan. BTW.........Those that went out and ran and did so safely have all of our respect. Wish that was us too, but we did not bring the boat or the willingness to have that "fun". Awesome pics and it is great to see offshore boats run in offshore conditions !! |

My uncle deleted the first one and uploaded this one, so the previously posted vid probably won't work.
|
Posting just to bump AJs post and video down which is being covered by a stupid web ad. What's up with that?
|
Nice vid fisher.... was a good run...
|
Just to add to.... Before we decided to continue on, I received a full thumbs up from the crew. They were hesitant at first (as you can tell from the commentary in the vid!) but once we got out and they realized it wasn't that terribly bad. They wanted to continue. At no time did I make a decision to continue on without full support and approval from the crew. If the conditions would have been beyond my driving skill level or the boats ability to navigate the waters then we would have returned to safe harbor. I/We had nothing to prove to anyone, we just wanted to play and have some fun.

About how fast were you cruising in those conditions? Just curious for my own benefit running in bumpy water, not looking to stir the pot.
