What would you guys say is the avg. oil temp a 525 would run when running around 3500 to 4000 rpm. Water temps are running almost the same, about 160. Oil pressures are running almost the same or within 5 to 10 psi of each other. However, oil temps are the problem. One is about 180 to 190 and the other is about 220 to 230. What would be a normal running oil temp? Is one considered high or is the other low ??

+1. Mine run between 190 and 220 also. Think that's the norm they should be at.

My 500efi usually runs right around 195-205 at cruise (3600rpm). At wot I usually don't push it past 225-230, which usually means I've been running wot for about 2-3 miles which is plenty for me. I know the 525 has closed cooling and aluminum heads, but other than that they are very similar to a 500. I run in fresh water with water temps of 75 degrees or less.

Mine didn't really seem to care about RPMs. It would run steadily up to 190, then the t-stat would open and it would go right back down to around 165. BTW, I am getting these numbers from Smartcraft.

My 525's run consistently around 180/190 (all three of them). Norm is about 180 - 220. If you have one engine running hotter than the other, that is something to look further into. Spiking oil temps on a 525 are sometimes an indicator of a header leak, ie: if you start ingesting water, you start to thin the oil and the temps spike. Definitely check your oil and look for signs of milkiness. Check the spark plugs and look for signs of rust. If either of those are present, pull the headers and pressure test them. I'm not saying you have a problem, but if there is inconsistency of oil temp between the two engines and both are stock and the same year, then its worth exploring.

Verify the problem on a Rinda scanner. Best money you will ever spend owning a 525. It will save you time and $.
