Some of us were talking about the 8-track tapes and players we had.
I had, in the 60's, the first portable 8-track player on the market. Does anyone remember who invented it and what company built it and why?

I'll give you a hint: the same man who invented the 8-track started/owned two corporations that are household names today and one of them builds aircraft.

I vaguely remember portable ones (Sound Design, Radio Shack). I do remember putting an AR 8 track in my '66 Mustang. Probably back in 1970. Wow, that was a long time ago! Bought the Mustang (3 years old, 289, 30K miles) for $800.

Didn't want to confuse anyone.
Who invented the 8-track tape and player?
It just happened that my first one was the portable model.

I think conventional wisdom is that Bill Lear did.

Give that man a cigar!!
William P. Lear (LearJet) invented the 8-track for use in his planes. Motorola, built the players.
The portable unit I had was called the Learjet 8. It was, in 1969, about the size of a briefcase.
