Formula SS for sure. I had a 330 SS. Awesome space and performance.

Any 28 to 30 foot go fast will be crowded with two adults and two teens. With that being said the Velocity 280 and 290SC are roomy and fast. Both have nice deep cockpits and roomy, for that size, cabins. The 290 has more headroom in the cabin and an enclosed head. A 496 mag HO will easily get you to 70mph.

I love the formula and the volicity, the velocity probably more because im 6ft 2. Thanks for everyones response, I will definately look into these. Thanks again, now the search, part 2. Lol. Take care and I will keep you posted on what I find.

I personally have a family boat that is relatively fast for what it is. For lounging on the hook, a go fast cockpit is tough IMO. I have young kids so I had to compromise. My boat is 27' with a 496 mag and tops out in the upper 50s. I personally like the big, sporty looking bowriders from Chaparral, Monterey SS, Formula SS & Cruisers Sport Series. They are sleek, roomy and the 30+ ones have a cabin & open bow. They can be equipped with twin big blocks to run over 60. My boat with the H.O. will run ~63 which aint bad for a family truckster. I also have thru hull so it sounds fast! LOL My next boat is possibly a Monterey 328SS w/twin 8.2 Mercs. Very sleek stance and a great layout. Happy wife = happy life!!

You mention a "wide beam" - anything over 8'6" and you will end up with trailering issues. This eliminates the Formula SS series, the SCs from Powerquest, and most of the large day boats from Chaparral and similar makers, if you want to trailer. 95% of the "go fast" boats will be trailerable. IME, Powerquest is known for having a relatively large cockpit for a performance boat, but it is not going to be the fastest boat on the water. Similarly, Black Thunder builds big boats, but there are trade offs. OTOH! Fountain boats are less roomy but lighter and faster. All depends on what you want to do...

A Powerquest 290 Enticer is a great twin engine, family friendly offshore-style boat. Room cabin, roomy cockpit, and upper 60's performance with twin 7.4L's or 6.2L MPI's.

How about a 31 Sonic? It has more amenities, cabin height, enclosed head and can sleep four. Most boats have v berths that can barely fit two but that Sonic has a pullout that may work for your family.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...-4-o66372.html also maybe a Velocity 290SC.Kenny Hohwiesner is brokering the Velocity and nobody except Steve Stepp knows more about Velocity's. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...er-o65545.html Many of the boats mentioned could work but you have to actually physically inspect and seatrial before making the purchase. Good luck. |
