OSO and its competitors?
This is not to start a big BS session like happens with everything here lately. But I was given a link recently to what seems to me to be the BIZZARO OSO. It was just like OSO, same format, I even saw some very familiar screen names there. What is the story? I don't even have time to keep up with the chatter that goes on here. Is no one ever happy with what they have? Well were all boaters so I guess were never quit satified. Though I do admit I liked the bathing suit section allot. Midnight:cool:
|
Midnight-
I have nothing, meaning a boat and I am very happy. Does this change after I become a boat owner? HA! |
Midnight-
There is no competition for OSO. It is the offshore boating leader. |
Cowgirl- I had my doors (hatches-Windscreen-swim trunks) blown away one time this year, my boat is no turtle, by a guy with an all yellow 42 Fountain that ran about 110mph, And its name was "Never Enough". That is very true in boating, I'm looking from my 42 to his saying, " I have to have that". Here is the mentality scale for sport boaters:
No boat owner wants a 22' Scarab 22' Scarab owner wants a 25' Baja 25' Baja owner wants a 32' Fountain 32' Fountain owner wants a 38' Top Gun 38' Top Gun owner wants a 42' Fountain:D 42' Fountain owner wants a 47' Fountain 47' Fountain owner wants a 51' Outerlimits 51' Outerlimits owners knows its time to quit!! Get the picture:D . Midnight:cool: |

Yep....that sounds about right. :D :D :D :D Except a 42 Fountain is about the same size as a 38 Top Gun.

Zoom- Is that Steel Heart? Midnight:cool:
|
Thanks Robert, I'll call you tonite-promise!
Yes Mid thats SteelHeart |
Uh-huh :p
No worries, getting ready for Jax this weekend. |
I KNOW THE FEELING...like a 33 ft cat owner and his wife want a 38 ft cat....with her blessing....that's why I am in a hurry....before she changes my mind...:)
P.S. ...what is this link to the competitor.....would like to check it out |
Any "competition" is good is it not? If Cigarette was the only boat we would never have inspired competition between us all...
Midnight Rider: My opinion - There was only one flaw with your boat progression, you forgot to mention the boat between production Baja's and the Fountains... the PQ 340 Vyper (PQ makes less than 230 total boats a year and they only make 12-15 340 Vyper's). I've had a 26 Scarab, been on plenty of Baja's and Fountains and for the money the 34' PQ beats out the two that you mentioned by a LONG way in ride, comfort, and amentities. Of course I am a little biased now but I can assure you that exactly one year ago I was NOT. Then I was looking for a 30'+ boat and could not find anything in the $200k and below price range (NEW) that had ALL the toys and performance. It is by far the best offering for PQ as the "total package" performance boat. BTW, with fresh water cooled 496's I get just over 80 on GPS and I have done NOTHING in the way of performace upgrades, including no labbed props. Then it's up to 38 Top Gun and beyond. I am sure this should start some "dialogue" about what brand is better... hehehe. Vyp |
Zoom - I ran next to you on the way back from South Haven in Smoke on the water. I think we were even by you getting fuel if its the boat I remember. I have some cool home video of us running with a Formula. Midnight:cool:
|
Its way to much computer time to try and stay up with one of these groups, two would be a part time job.
42 Fountain owner really wants a 37 Outerlimits. Midnight:cool: |
vyper340.. were you ever at lake cumberland at the beginning of august...?
|
I have unfortunately never been to Lake Cumberland. I would go but I dry store my boat and don't have a trailer.
|
I was just wondering cause I know there are not many 340 vypers and I saw one there.. I almost cried.. it was beautiful :) there nice boats bro..

Yeh, once you've owned one, you always want one :p Got my eyes open right now...Maybe a new Callan 55, kinda like that 100mph in air conditioned comfort :p

He stores it and uses it mostly on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. His last boat was a 35' Lightning with a Yellow and Black hull with the same name. This 42' has triple 500's. Not sure of the 110mph, but I do know it moves out. |
OSO has the link or the name blocked of the competitors site.
I guess there is more to the story |

Originally posted by jb OSO has the link or the name blocked of the competitors site. I guess there is more to the story As I recall, the owner of "the other site" took advantage of the fact that the OSO people accidently allowed the ownership w w w . O f f s h o r e O n l y . n e t lapse, he registered it, threw u[ up a copycat site on it, then tried to sell the URL back to OSO. Not a very standup way to start a new site. :( :( :( |
I thought everyone wanted a 46 Skater with big Sterling Power.
|
Some time back, didn't a board member break away and create a copy of OSO?
|
My dream boat is 51' Outerlimits with Big Sterling Power! (the wife would like the cabin and I could run a full 120-130 in style and comfort) Midnight:cool:
42 Yellow Fountain- The one I ran was stepped w/staggered 900's. |
Sorry Midnight, I'm with Zoomin' and Tonto it's got to be a Bigger Cig or and Apache. Sorry that life!!!!:D
|
Hey Mid, would like to know if thats us and check it out if poss.

Zoom- it was you, back4more was riding with you I think. I have the 42 Fountain with red and black trim, the exhaust over the swim platform. We ran with you boys.
And you CIG and Apache guys have great boats. My good Buddy Apache Kid has owned a 41 Apache and now has a 38 TG. I love apache lines, and have been in it in rough water, great boat. And I almost bought a Top Gun this year. But when it comes right down to it, for the early 90's vintages, those are slower boats with equal power for slightly more money. 90K could buy my boat, 90mph with Trip 600's; or a 91' TG w/ t-525's at 71 mph for the same money. I love the looks of my Fountain, I love those of Cig an Apache, but I love to go fast, and Fountains are fast. And in todays newer used market, and showroom market, I think the fastest bang for your buck looks like an Outerlimits. Many will agree that there is not a better, faster design on the production V-Hull market. My next boat will probably be an earlier model 37 Stilleto. Those boats were made to run triple digits. Midnight:cool: I spent the weekend parked next to this boat, and just knew I had to have one. |
as we all know(or should by now) "there are TWO sides to every story". i frequent a few boating boards and they all have there advantages. When we start bashing other sites and its members we will be no better than the boater ed site and the way they view OSO! Dont judge someone just by what others say, form your own opinion. This isnt meant to be a pissin match just makin sure it doesnt get railroaded the wrong way. Stop by the other sites and form your own opinion is the best thing i can suggest.
