Well if the low pro's handle the load, then the taller A/T's are usually equal. I am in the high performance tire and wheel industry, don't deal with too much truck stuff, but I also previously had a 92 sub with 285/60-18 Pirelli Scorpion Zero's, and I was very pleased.
I will give a call to one of my customers that also deals with alot of truck applications and tires and see what the low down recommendation he would give
I post back in a few miniutes, and let you know what he says

Brian, just got off the phone with Nick from Wheel Warehouse out here in CA., and he said the Nitto A/T and the BFG A/T are quite comparable, both wear the same, it handles good, and is load rated the same as the BFG, and is quiet also.
He said that Nitto must be doing a good job marketing them, because people are coming in asking for that specific tire, and he has had no complaints.
He did say that the BFG is probably better for the more Offroad type use, but on a cost bassis for general road use and for towing that the Nitto would not disappoint
Hope that help's with your decision

Check out the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips. I am running 38 x 15.50 x 16.50 on a Hummer. Tough tire, great looking and no problem for towing trailer. BTW, it is also a great offroad tire.

When I got my Dodge this spring the dealer had just put new tires on it, Dunlop A/T Radial Rover's. I have put every mile on these tires (about 5000 so far) and I love them!!! I went thru 3 sets of Bridgestones on my last truck, I like them a lot (got 150,000 miles out of 3 sets, not bad for the way I drive). But I'm pretty sure that when it comes time for new tires, I will be looking to replace these Dunops with the same tire. I like the way they handle (good sidewall), I like the way they ride, smooth....and I love their traction. Wet, dry, slippry ramp, gravel, they just grab on and go.
That's my .02 worth.

My 99 F 150 Lariat 4x4 came with 17" Goodyear ATS. I haul heavy loads of tile in it, pull the boat, and my travel trailer. Two of the tires still on the truck are originals, coming up on 96,000 miles. I can't believe how these tire wear. The other two were replace from running over crap on job sites. They also grip pretty well on mud and slimy boat ramps. They aren't cheap though.
